Welcome back to TURTZED! Today Katie joins us to talk about friendships, difficult conversations and mental health. Friendships go through phases and, even as they ebb and flow, when there is an underlying foundation of trust, there is always a way back into the groove. We discuss postpartum anxiety, and the way in which the strength of our friendship enabled us, without communicating directly, to know that the other needed help. We also explore how a break in our friendship helped us to better understand the others' struggles, as well as improve our ability to communicate and to ask the hard questions. Episode Takeaways: When someone is struggling, even if you don't know what to say - sometimes it is more important to just show up and be there. Don’t be afraid of the reaction – if you think someone is struggling, even if you don’t know the right thing to say, it is better to ask and risk being wrong. Don’t be afraid to reach out to reconnect even if there was a rift. You may be surprised to find that the other person is also relieved to reconnect. Small acts, such as a hug, a phone call or a question, can make a huge difference for someone, don't hold back if you feel someone is struggling. Suggest a podcast topic or guest! Welcome back to TURTZED: Today Paula will join us to discuss pushing yourself outside your comfort zone and how the fear of taking a first step, may be a sign of great things to come. We will discuss Paula’s masters in education and how that has impacted and propelled her career even though she was not a teacher. Paula discusses how she has always pushed herself towards financial freedom and the life she wants to create, and just as important, when to pause so you don’t push yourself too far. She has stayed true to herself and her authentic connections have led to an amazing new journey for her. Episode Takeaways: True connections are hard to find and when you find the right ones, it is important to nurture and maintain them. Take the first step even if it’s scary, you never know where it is going to lead you. Keep an open mind, notice opportunities and be ready to explore. When something feels like it is missing, reflection can help you understand what is missing and how to fill that void. Don’t be afraid to break things up. Understand that hitting a ceiling doesn’t mean you are the problem, the environment may no longer serve you and it’s time to make room to nurture bigger and better things. Welcome back to TURTZED! Rob will join us to discuss fitness, friends, family and full-body awareness. Rob and I have worked together on my fitness for over a year and today Rob will share more about his journey to becoming a fitness expert as well as open up, in the words of Rob himself, “more than he has in a long time” to share his coming out story and how being his authentic self has lead him to build a business he loves and support even more people than he could have imagined. Episode Takeaways: When you reveal your secrets, you are free to be "you" and who you want to be, which might be better than you imagined Allow the space for people to show you they can change. Their past behavior doesn’t indicate the outcome of a future connection. You could be closing doors that might have become meaningful in your life Our bodies are always changing and if we have body awareness, we can make small modifications that can have a big impact on things like energy and productivity Every day counts and every day contains possibilities - wake up open to the promise of possibilities Suggest a podcast topic or guest! Welcome back to TURTZED! Today Kerri will join us to discuss the Human Design practice, how she discovered it, what it is and how it can be put into practice. I have personally seen a shift in my life from the Foundations course I did with Kerri and I am excited for Kerri to share more about the Human Design practice, with the hope that we can all continue down our self-discovery journey and dive deeper into our own authenticity. Episode Takeaways: We need to be kind to ourselves and understand that it is all a learning experience. Wait for the invitation – don’t spend your time and resources on people who are not ready for what you have to share. Awareness of self and the other in communication – when communicating you need to respect the other person’s method of communication and how they process as well as your own. We have permission to be who we are and also allow for permission and respect of the other to be who they are. When we have awareness, then we also have choice because clarity provides the power to learn and grow from our mistakes and enables us to make choices. Suggest a podcast topic or guest! Welcome back to TURTZED: Today Nicole will join us to throw it back to our childhood. Discussing our friendship, the paths we have taken, how Nicole knew I was gay and her life’s journey. We will see each other live for the first time in over 15 years for a fun surprise reaction and we hold nothing back when talking about life, relationships, toxicity and how we have pushed through to find a happier, more balanced life pursuing our passions. (You can also watch on YouTube) Episode Takeaways: You can become what you are used to or break the mold and become what you never had. Don’t take on someone’s perspective of you. Their perception is likely a projection of how they feel about themselves. Maybe we repeat unhealthy patterns because we don't think we deserve better. You can be worthy even if you have made mistakes, but forgiving yourself can be the key to being able to move forward. When you solve an issue - the new normal is hard to navigate because it doesn't feel normal or familiar. Suggest a podcast topic or guest! Welcome back to TURTZED! Join me for the part two of my coming out journey as I discuss the pain of hiding my authenticity, dissociating from emotions and the dangers that come with that. I also will discuss for the first time, the depression I experienced and how that affected the people in my life. I will share what I learned from my experiences as well as my hope for the future of this podcast. Episode Takeaways: Respect and acknowledge your feelings, even if it doesn't seem like anyone else holds your view, because the others may not be being authentic. Our moments of desperation and struggle are not as hidden as we think they are. People who love us can intuit where we are. Sometimes those who put on the bravest face, seem the most put together and are helping others, can often be the ones struggling in silence. If you are able to create a safe space for open dialog, it can provide small and crucial details that might help you to understand how that person is suffering. Having difficult conversations can lead to understanding. We cannot know what people are thinking unless we ask - and without asking, we might attribute feelings that are based on inaccurate presumptions and conclusions. Don't assume that you know what people are thinking or what motivates them - instead, come from a place of curiosity and, with kindness, ask a question to start an honest conversation - which may replace your upset and uncertainty with relief and comfort. Welcome back to TURTZED! Have you ever been labeled as something when in reality that isn't even 1% of who you are? Have you ever been labeled as the other one? Join me in the first part of my coming out journey as I discuss hiding my authenticity, giving up on things that brought me joy, my relationship with my brother and coming out to my parents and so much more to come in part two. Episode Takeaways: We are all different - and we don't need to hide those traits which make us unique in order to fit in. If we celebrate our differences without making comparisons, we can avoid inflicting pain and feelings of inadequacy on others. When you conceal parts of yourself in order to fit in, you can get trapped in a role that doesn't feel right or natural, and which will cause pain and suffering. Seek to spend time with people who value you and might, if given the chance, celebrate you for your authenticity. Rather than surrendering to the fear of exposing your authentic self, if you ask for support when you need it, you might find that your fears were unfounded and you may receive support and love instead of rejection. When you hide parts of yourself for fear of being rejected by people you love, you do not give them the chance to love and support you fully. When someone is revealing something deeply personal, we may not know how hard it was to be authentic, and we should treat that moment with care and compassion - sometimes just being present is enough. Welcome back to TURTZED: Have you ever had an almost deja vu moment when a situation feels so familiar but the players are different? Or a gut feeling you ignore because it feels almost safe and comfortable because you have experienced it before, even though it's far from safe? We'll discuss how I identified patterns that were recurring, how they prevented me from showing up as the real me and why changing my name was a piece of starting to live life more authentically. Epsiode Takeaways: Consider whether you have allowed yourself to be pushed into a mold by ignoring who you really are and what you really want. If we look at life as a pendulum and focus on the side it swings to when we are in pain, we can sometimes miss it swinging in the other direction. While being honest and vulnerable is very hard, it also allows you to be your authentic self. Choose to be surrounded by people who value your authenticity, rather than trying to change yourself to fit in or to be what others want you to be, because that never feels comfortable. It may feel safer to try to be what you think people want you to be, but in the end, you will be dismissing your true interests and preferences for people who do not genuinely care about you. Showing up as who you are is so much more powerful and, frankly, a way more enjoyable way to live life. Suggest a podcast topic or guest! Contact Charlie for Coaching, Advertising or Press. Welcome to TURTZED! Who are we? How do we show up in the world, and how do we get to where we want to be? My intention - and my commitment to you - is to show up each week on TURTZED as Charlie, in the buff, failures, belly flops, flaws and all, and to share my journey, share the journey of others I have met along the way, and introduce the modalities that have helped us affect real change in our lives. Episode Takeaways: Rather than having so many different versions of yourself, based on the community or situation, consider that it might ultimately be more enjoyable and far less complicated, just to be your authentic self. Rationalizing something away does not diminish its impact, and doing so may make you feel hopeless. Past traumas which we have experienced are not our fault and we should not feel shame from them. When we recognize the intense emotions that are triggered by early traumas, it may be best to pause and reflect as this reaction is likely being triggered from the past - rather than impulsively misdirecting those emotions at stimuli from the present.. Seek out trustworthy, compassionate people who will accept you and provide a safe space for you to enjoy being your authentic self. Suggest a topic or guest!
