Welcome back to TURTZED!

Today Katie joins us to talk about friendships, difficult conversations and mental health.  Friendships go through phases and, even as they ebb and flow, when there is an underlying foundation of trust, there is always a way back into the groove.  We discuss postpartum anxiety, and the way in which the strength of our friendship enabled us, without communicating directly, to know that the other needed help. We also explore how a break in our friendship helped us to better understand the others' struggles, as well as improve our ability to communicate and to ask the hard questions.

Episode Takeaways:

  1. When someone is struggling, even if you don't know what to say - sometimes it is more important to just show up and be there.

  2. Don’t be afraid of the reaction – if you think someone is struggling, even if you don’t know the right thing to say, it is better to ask and risk being wrong.

  3. Don’t be afraid to reach out to reconnect even if there was a rift. You may be surprised to find that the other person is also relieved to reconnect.

  4. Small acts, such as a hug, a phone call or a question, can make a huge difference for someone, don't hold back if you feel someone is struggling.
