I invited my dear friend Marissa to join me for the Season Finale of the Podgecast. Art and creativity are such an important part of our wellness and a way for us to see goodness and beauty in the world. Marissa identifies as a "re-emerging artist" and I highly recommend checking out her creations.
About Marissa:
Marissa's work is a visual invitation to rest the eyes and the mind. The intention behind her work is to inspire you to embrace art, texture and colour in your home and life.
She finds flow in detailed, repeated mark-making using watercolour, gouache, ink and natural dyes to create paintings. Marissa includes found/repurposed materials to create playful, intricate collage and textile art pieces.
Her work has been shown at the Golden Arts Council Gallery, BC Festival of the Arts, Textile Arts Center Gallery in Brooklyn and currently in the online gallery Artterra. Marissa has a diploma in fashion design with a focus on textile arts - surface design and weaving.

Tobacco Brown is the moniker of the multifaceted singer-songwriter Kevan Schell. The Vancouver based artist’s work is warm yet elusive, stirring up a spectacular array of emotions. Kevan explores the deep waters of his mind while executing his vision through guitar explosions and dark harmonies. He manages to layer genre upon genre while remaining refreshingly distinctive. Drawing from influences such as Tom Waits, John Lee Hooker and Weird Al; there is no one quite like him.
Kevan released his self-titled debut EP under “Tobacco Brown” in 2016. It is an instantly addictive record packed with mesmerizing melodies and instrumental victories.

Putting together Adventures in Podcasting with my guest/co-host "Excuse Me, I Have Something To Say" host Shaun Philip Naylor was, well, an adventure in podcasting. It's a hodge-lodge of 3 separate conversations pieced together. Some of the recording on my end was poor quality, and I salvaged it because the content of the conversation was worth it. As an amateur podcaster, my experience is limited. I spent over 12 hours editing and piecing things together to create a little bit of flow, and a special 2-part episode that I had lots of fun creating.
Instead of giving you the guide to the best equipment and technology, Shaun and I offer a more DIY approach, and Shaun offers that podcasting is a "free art form." In my mind, this gives us permission to be imperfect, messy, and to have fun!
For those interested in exploring the wonderful world of podcasting, here are some of the resources Shaun and I shared. If we mentioned something that's missing from this list, reach out and we will add it to the list. Happy Podcasting, and thank you for tuning in to Season 2, Episode 6 Part 2 of The Podgecast!

Dear Podgecast Audience and Guests,
I made a rookie mistake, which is great because I'm a rookie and I'm learning. I recorded some fantastic content for Episode 6 while I was cat-sitting and alas, I was in an area with an echo. I need to re-record most of the episode, so I've taken the opportunity to share a little about my vision for the Podgecast and a little more about me, as some friends and listeners were asking.
Please note that when I speak of humans being supported, I'm speaking from a place of faith and what I believe to be true: that we are supported by the Universe. Sometimes as humans, we aren't supported and society can be very cruel, especially when we get caught up in group (mob) mentality. And when this happens, can we be kind to ourselves, remembering that one reason we go along with the group is to feel a sense of connection and belonging?
When we go within and truly connect with our hearts, it is possible to regain access to unconditional love for self and others. It's such an important time of year for people to know they are not alone, so for those who can access that care in their hearts, please do.
Have a listen to this brief bonus "episode" and send me some feedback. If we aren't connected on social media, you can reach me @the_podgecast or @rachelhayek_ on Instagram, or you can email me directly [email protected].
BIG love,
Rachel xoxo

Meet Christina Baker. She wants to help you harness the power of emotions, and in our lively conversation, Christina offers many insights and tools to help us more deeply understand our emotional experience. Self-love is core to the work I do, and Christina gave me so much to reflect on in this episode. I hope you learn as much as I did. When I re-listened to this episode after we recorded, I was so moved by the deep care Christina demonstrates for the human experience.
She's the creator of the Emotion Mapping Program, a 90-day intensive designed to upgrade your "Emotional GPS." She invites you to ditch the mindset of the last generation and upgrade to a more informed and empowering one to unlock our untapped potential. In her enthusiastic, compassionate, and often irreverent style, she pulls from ancient wisdom and modern science to reveal that a new perspective towards our emotional worlds is the key to enriching everyone's experience.
Christina references a tool call the "mood meter" and you can learn more about it and the work of Marc Brackett, PhD. here: https://www.marcbrackett.com/about/mood-meter-app/
