Back Yourself Podcast
Back Yourself Podcast
Matt Brown
The Back Yourself Podcast revolves around mindset and mentality. Finding out what makes people tick, how they deal with the situations that life throws them, how they treat themselves, what they do for themselves but most importantly WHY. Guests we have are a combination of other fitness trainers in different fields, small business owners and healthcare professionals. I also touch on topics that I see people struggle with in the gym or topics that I have dealt with myself. The Back Yourself Podcast will NOT tell you what you need to do but it will hopefully start the conversation for you.

In the final episode of the Back Yourself Podcast for 2020, Sam and I go through all the events that have happened to us in the past 12 months: Planning to merge the gyms Covid Looking for a new facility  Closing and opening gyms Managing our own expectations. On top of the crazy year we've had front of house, back of house and mentally we've had just as bigger year.  We discuss our mindsets across the past 12 months including some of the less glamorous moments and how we stayed grounded.  Yes there were hard times and yes both of us were overwhelmed at points BUT we made it and it's onwards and upwards. The Back Yourself Podcast will be taking a little break but will be back in 2021 with new guests and new topics!

Liam Sue-Tin - LST Support Services Pt 2: Clients & Family
Liam, the owner and operator of LST Support Services popped in for a chat and we dove into being a disability carer, his clients and what's involved. LST Support Services is all about everyone enjoying their life to the fullest, no matter what the disability.  Liam has taken on the role of "big brother" to all his clients (who he refers to as his mates) and has helped them achieve so many goals, both small and large.   Part 2 of our chat looks at a couple of his more regular and longest standing clients.  He knows these guys like the back of his hand and is continuing to help them work towards their independence.  We also touch on family.  Who is in his support network and what motivates him. Ky McKenzie - Chasing the AFL Dream
This is the second installment of my AFL player chats and in this episode I'm talking to Ky McKenzie.  At 18 he's been playing AFL since he was a little tucker and the end goal has always been to play elite footy in the AFL.  Find out what makes him tick, does he feel the pressure?  What does his training look like? How mental health affects preparation and training.   It's a good insight for parents, coaches and other players. This is an open and honest discussion about how much effort a young player is putting in to have a real crack at being drafted to the AFL.

Lucia Liessi - Future AFLW Star
Looking back on my time playing representative sport, we had no were near the amount of support and guidance that young athletes have these days.  The only catch with that is athletes today have much more pressure from a younger age.  Across the next 2 episodes I will be talking to a male and female young athlete to hear their perspective on their careers and career aspirations plus how they deal with the pressures of playing at a representative level. In this episode I talk to Lucia Liessi, a young female footy player who is juggling year 12 and representative sport.  We talk about representing Queensland, being the the Brisbane Lions Academy and how she approaches each game.  This is a great insight to a young adults mindset and how they're wired when it comes to their sport.

Machinery Hill: Conquering The World as a Rock Band Pt 2
2010 was one of Machinery Hill's biggest years.  By this point we had recorded an album, shot a film clip and gone on to do both our debut single and debut album launches.  In this episode I look at 2009 into 2010 and we cover all the previously mentioned accomplishments plus throw in one of our biggest gigs (outside of our launches).  Sit back, crack a drink and enjoy part 2 of the Machinery Hill story. Today's episode is sponsored by Emily Taylor Music. For 1 on 1 or small group music lessons email [email protected] for Brisbane's best northside music teacher.
