Episode 54 | The Latina Rose That Grew From Concrete, featuring Vanessa Paula
Welcome to Season 2 of the Watch Us Thrive podcast! I can't believe we're in the second season🥹🙏🏼I have an amazing episode for y'all this week!South Bronx bred and NYCHA raised, Vanessa Paula considers herself to be a Latina rose that grew from the concrete. She started out as yet another "negative statistic" from the South Bronx. As a teenage mom, Vanessa refused to accept her circumstances, so she hustled hard and made her heart strong to survive in a hood that was plagued by poverty, drugs, gang activity, and the elephant in the room no one wanted to address: the mental health of our people in our community.Vanessa is a first generation Latina striving to change the narrative of her own story from surviving to thriving by breaking the cycle one day at a time. She's had limited access to resources which is the reason why Vanessa is so passionate about helping others heal. Her experience and walks of life are vast but she believes there is purpose to her pain. She wholeheartedly believes that people deserve to be seen, heard, loved and valued. You can follow Vanessa on Instagram.Episode Highlights:Why inner child healing is so importantGrowing up in a dysfunctional home & becoming a teen momHer lightbulb moment on why she started therapyThe 8 dimensions of wellness and other tools she's used on her personal development journeyNavigating through the journey of forgivenessTune in this week to a real ass conversation with someone who I had the pleasure of connecting with last year. I loved the energy Vanessa brought to the show and the message behind her life stories, so I knew she would be a perfect guest of the Watch Us Thrive podcast. She's a huge advocate for mental health in underserved communities. One thing she learned along her journey is that by sharing her story, she's helping at least one person know that healing and joy is possible for them. We all deserve to heal and once we get the tools and know how to apply them in our daily lives, we can begin that healing process.
