Barry King is a renowned artist, a retired corporate executive, a gourmet barbecue sauce-maker, and the "most interesting man" that attorney Ty Stimpson knows. He has done so many fascinating, amazing things in his life that it's hard to believe he tried to end it by taking 124 prescription pills one night in a Fort Worth hotel room. Barry recently sat down with Ty for a heartfelt interview in which he talked about battling depression while living a storied life that included growing up around Muhammad Ali in Louisville, KY; pursing art and commissioning pieces for celebrities; becoming the first black vice president of Radio Shack; appearing in a famous movie with Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington; and launching a successful gourmet barbecue sauce business with his brothers. Despite all of his accomplishments, Barry struggled with severe depression and took enough pills one day to "kill four people." It didn't work. Thanks to his wife, he was found and rushed to a hospital, where he was in a coma for three days. After he awoke, he questioned why God spared him and his purpose in life. He made the decision to spend the rest of his life telling his story and doing whatever he could to remove the stigma of depression and suicide. "I know there is a God," Barry told Ty. "I know that personally because you should have never met me."
