Ep.2 Lindsay’s Story (Motherhood, Psychosis and Dual Diagnosis)
"One day I decided I didn't want to be crazy anymore, that I didn't want to live with my thoughts anymore." In episode 2 of the Identity season Lindsay shares her profound story of her childhood and dealing with chronic OCD, trauma, and ED led her to perfectionism and addiction in adulthood. Lindsay explains her experience of becoming a new mother forced her to confront her trauma head on through countless specialty treatments that were a desperate response her episodes of psychosis, postpartum depression and suicide attempts. Lindsay describes what it was like to feel helpless to her mind, fearful of her thoughts and how her mental illness manifested in debilitating ways in adulthood (not only through addiction.) Lindsay explains the steps she took and willingness she had to find to come out of a painful divorce and how a perfectionist like herself ended up surviving in homeless shelters and mental hospitals as an escape from reality of her mind.  Lindsay's story is true evidence of the power of resilience, community, AA, courage, prayer and commitment can turn our life around.
