" One day I decided that people struggling with mental health and addiction shouldn't be incarcerated."
-Ashleigh
Listen to Ashleigh tell her story about how living with someone who struggled with addiction led to a career in legal services becoming a mental health advocate and decriminalize drug addicts in our legal system. Ashleigh shares what it's like for her growing up in a family that was part of the Prop 64 movement. She shares how watching someone she love struggle with drug addiction and unfair convictions inspired her to become a lawyer to help addicts or people who struggle with mental health to reintegrate back into society.
In this episode Ashleigh and I talk about how challenging it is in our society to not only overcome addiction but to come back from incarceration or any criminal history. We discuss if it's possible to live in a world where drug addiction and mental health is decriminalized and how her practices strive to abolish and question the systems we currently have in place to help those in recovery.
