Giving me hope
I found you about two years ago from today’s show article. I never believed there were people out there like me who had experienced what I was going through. Not only that, I never imagined there were people who had strong relationships in the aftermath. So grateful to have found you to help me create the future that I want for myself. A family full of love even if it looks different. This is challenging at times as we all know but you give me hope for what’s possible. -ArmyBarbie 💕💕💕

Thank you for your courage, you guys rock!
First, I just want to say thank you to Jessica, Matt, and Steve for having the courage to share your story and be as open as you are. It’s so comforting to know that there are others out there who have gone through this. I love the show! I love how you guys address so many different topics related to your journey and just relationships in general. My ex shared your cast with me and I listen when I can. I’m proud to say that her and I are in a really good place thanks in part to you all. We chose to continue to show up for each other and our kids and I thank God for her courage to support me and our family despite what others thought she should do. Keep the episodes coming!

Making real positive change
Love this podcast and how they’ve broken down the stereotypes of divorce, co-parenting, allyship and the lgbtq+ community and navigating a high demand religion and it’s community. I’m so grateful for the support I had from their stories and the community Jess created through coaching. It has made the hard things of my life a little lighter and much less lonely. Thanks you! You’re lovely people to know -seeking_me_truthfully

Love the “Both And” Approach!
Love this podcast so much! The dynamic between Jess, Matt and Steve is refreshing, especially when so much of our society is divided. I absolutely love that Jess and Matt are active LDS and that Steve is living his best gay life and they all love and respect each other and get along! We need this podcast and many more examples of living in the messy but very real beauty of Both And!

Great podcast
Thank you for you candor and humor. It gives me hope that I will be able to have that level of friendship with my former spouse if our path takes us there. I appreciate that you talk about the feelings of everything so openly. I hope to be as happy as Steve seems some day!

Incredible Resource
Jessica, Steve & Matt have created such a powerful resource with this podcast. As a therapist, I’ve found this podcast to be such a good recommendation for my clients who are navigating divorce and coparenting. I just love this podcast!

Perfect Timing
I found this podcast right in the midst of my spouse coming out to me about a year and a half ago and it truly was perfect timing. Thanks for sharing your story and experiences with the world. You really are reaching those of us who relate and providing such a great resource to go to while navigating such a unique experience. I have really appreciated Matt’s perspective and willingness to share his story as well. Also I gotta throw out a plug for Jess’s Unicorn coaching group. I was a part of that and it helped me find community during a difficult time and move forward with hope and confidence for the future. Love you all! Thank you thank you thank you.

The best podcast!
I have been listening to this podcast ever since Steve’s sister, Suzi, was a guest, and binged right after! I can’t believe I haven’t left a review until now. Going through a divorce in my own life this podcast has been my guidebook, because I want a divorce relationship like Steve and Jess. They show how you can still have a healthy relationship with your ex! Also kudos to Matt for the support, and Matt’s story has been so interesting as well! Love you all!

A Shining Example for the Rest of Us
This show has allowed my spouse and I to have harder talks then I think we would have if not for listening to you three. I am gay married to a woman as well for almost two decades. I came out a little over a year and a half ago to her. We (she) are taking time and not rushing into too many decisions. I feel like we should be further than we are. I know you stayed married for several years after Steve came out. Was there ever any frustration or resentment through that time of, we will call, the in between?

Safe place and friendship
Thank you for being my safe place and friends. While I’m personally straight, i have people close to me who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. And this podcast has surely helped me have much better understanding of how we can show much more love and and kindness to one another. Both in the LGBTQIA’s community and beyond. I have listened to every single episode and anxiously wait for each new one to come up, while I also relistening to most episodes. Thanks for being such a great support to many. I always feel so comforted by the sounds of your voices and the banter and love you have with one another. You guys emulate so much goodness and love and I truly appreciate it.

New Addition to Daily Routine…
I stumbled upon this podcast after hearing Jessica as a guest on another podcast where she shared her story/experiences as a stepmother. From Episode 1 I was hooked and the podcast is now what I listen to as I travel to and from work. I love the relationship you all have built with one another and how you share everything in such a candid way .. from the hood to the bad to the ugly. As a stepmother myself, I appreciate hearing how you all approach your situation and co-parent together. Side note - I DIEDDDD laughing when I listed to the episode about the Pepto (a/k/a pesto) that was delivered to Steve when he was sick. As in, I played it three times in a row while sitting at a stoplight and was crying because I was laughing so hard. Pretty sure the trucker beside of me thought I needed medical help by the time the light turned green. Such a great story!

New Listener in Love with the Show
I found this podcast last week and I’ve been obsessed. I’ve been bing-listening trying to get caught up. As a member of The Chirch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I’ve been working hard the last couple years to “listen to learn” and to educate myself on topics that I’ve been sheltered from in the past. I love the example you guys show of loving and including, kindness and compassion. I only hope I can be like you as I continue to learn and grow!

Helpful and Entertaining Podcast
I’ve been listening since I heard Jessica on an episode of “Questions From the Closet” podcast. I started from the beginning and I’m nearly caught up. I don’t know what I’ll do when I’ll have to wait for new episodes to drop! I love the insights and perspectives you three share. My oldest son came out three years ago. Your podcast has helped me look at situations with a different perspective all while simultaneously giving more grace. Thank you for sharing and allowing us to learn from your experiences. P.S. I currently live in Oklahoma and I think you all need to come back and make some new, fun memories.😉

54 days
54 days ago I listened to Jessica on Questions From the closet. 54 days ago I started listening to Husband in Law. 54 days since I have had a conversation with my husband without an AirPod in my ear 😂 No but for reals! On episode 80 and have thoroughly enjoyed the real way you all tackle the tough things! I have found myself laughing out loud, shedding a few tears and counting down the minutes to when I can listen to the next one. Not sure what I’m going to do when I get caught up and have to wait a week. Thank you for being open and vulnerable and such great story tellers! Can we be friends….thinking about moving to Idaho and getting a job at Shipzoom. ❤️😜

Love!
I found these guys on an IG reel. I started listening to the podcast to help pass the time at work since I’m alone most of my day. I can’t put it down! You guys are the best! So easy to listen to and so relatable. Thank you for putting your story out there and just being so real and raw. I can’t wait to hear more!

Best binge worthy podcast
I have been listening to this podcast since mid to end of September. I just finished episode 38 and I have been on the edge of my seat in each episode. Baha! I laugh hearing about past reviews saying how “angry” they are to have to wait a week for the next episode and I sit here thinking that I get to listen to all of them at once on my spare moment! 😂😂 I love the emotional roller coaster(to be honest that’s a love hate relationship) but I love learning about your guy’s story. I listened because one I haven’t had much exposure being raised in Utah county and active member of the church. But my sisters have had exposures since some of their friends are in the LGBTQ+ community. I feel like hearing your story now will help me in current and future conversations with my sisters(and my brother) and others I may come across in the future. It’s new for me as I have recently felt more open to learn more and change my false beliefs to something more beautiful with in myself and my relationship with my husband and my son as he gets older(currently two years old, I have a little bit of time to learn and grow). I know I have a lot to work on, but doing my best to figure that out along the way. Thank you guys for being willing to share your story, I can’t imagine how many lives you have touched in your unique and beautiful situation. I can’t wait to finally get caught up.

Most bingable podcast ever!
This is the most bingable show I’ve ever heard! A lot of the time I’d rather listen to this instead of watching shows and/or movies. Wow! I hope they’re done with their break by the time im done!

Seriously?! This is AMAZING!
Ok this show, I have been binging for a week now, 45 episodes in 7 days! Every time I listen to this it makes me want to be even more vulnerable in my marriage and really connect with him. Thank you all for this example of open communication. Thank you for sharing your story. I always say there are two great lies we often believe: 1. I am unique in my suffering, and 2. Others are unique in their success. We can all learn from each other thank you so much.

Inspiring & Fascinating
I saw that viral video on IG and was curious to learn more. I grew up in a dysfunctional household which has led to toxic and jealous relationships my whole life, and I've taken a pause from dating to sort all of that out. So, I was awestruck by the honest, caring, and nonjudgmental discourse between the 3 of you while discussing really difficult topics. Plus, your stories are so interesting - I'm on episode 55 after a week or so, haha 😂 (I listen to a ton of audiobooks and podcast normally, this is the only one at the moment!) Thank you for putting yourselves out there! You seem like such fun and kind people 😀

It’s all heart (and laughs)
I can’t remember who recommended this podcast to me about a year and a half ago, but I am so glad they did! This is a great podcast for learning how to love anyone and let go of expectations. Jessica and Steve’s story is one of mutual love and understanding and patience with each other and with themselves. I don’t know how Jessica was so wise at such a young age, but her instincts are what I want in the world. These three people are sharing openly how they are going through life learning to listen to their own inner voice and heart and trying to give space for others to do the same. Glad to hear they are taking a break! I am all for quality over quantity and doing what you need to do to keep going. Thanks guys for your time and energy! I have been able to relate to so many emotions and feelings shared. Thank you.

I love this so much. All three of you are such beautiful gems. You all give so much love to each other. I just listened to Oklahoma Part 2 and Matt got emotional thinking about if Steve had support. It melted my heart.

Y’all are wicked cool!!
I have absolutely LOVED listening to your podcast. I’m very late to the game, so I’m binge listening to your podcast and it’s been so awesome to hear everything y’all have to share!! I’ve learned so much and I soooo appreciate that you are each so vulnerable in sharing your story! Thank you!! I grew up with Matt (well...he was older than me). And then at some point him and some of his friends (Symons) would hangout with me and my friends and then I specifically remember Matt thinking we were a bit “wild” haha. Hope one day I can meet you Jess and you Steve!! I would have never knew about your podcast, until my parents Bob & Betty told me about it!! They love your podcast too!!

You CAN be happy in any situation
👍I relate to the struggle to find joy even in the toughest times. As the spouse of an addict Steve and Jessica’s story is familiar. Thanks for the reminder that it’s my responsibility to find my joy! 👎Ann. Whew. More grace for Ann. I’m often cringing wishing that axe could be left buried. Yeah. Counterproductive, gossiping, ganging up. ❤️Binged the whole podcast in 5 days of yard work and laundry!

I wait each week to hear the episodes. I think the real stories that are shared are the best I have heard. As I listen I feel like I know you and want to be apart of your family. Thanks for sharing.

Love in many ways
I found this lovely podcast a few months ago and have wanted to leave a review for quite some time but it was the most recent episode that got me to here, finally! I love this podcast for so many reasons (I grew up in Idaho within the Mormon church, I’m a divorcee and now remarried with three step kids) but listening to Jess talk about her role as step mom and how she navigates her relationship with her step kids and their mom gave me a reminder that I needed to hear... you don’t have to accept the negativity. I feel like I have spent the last five years trying to “win over” my kids’ mom and it’s been a losing battle. I loved hearing that Jessica doesn’t even respond to the texts and deletes them as soon as she had let Matt read them and carries on. So thank you. Thank you for reminding me that I can do what I’m trying to teach my kids to do. You can’t control other people but you can control your reaction and what you let into your environment. Love love love this podcast, in so many ways!! Happy Birthday month to you Jessica! I’ll wait patiently for oh balloon animal to be made by Steve and shipped by Matt 😂

Happy Birthday Jess
Started listening to this podcast last year and I loved it so much I have relistened to all the episodes in order in the last 2 weeks! I am a step mom with no bio kids and this podcast has helped me to recognize the good in every situation, look from other view points and also give myself and others grace. You guys are so fun to listen to. I am always cracking up at work at jesses laugh, Steve’s funny comments and Matt’s dry humor. You guys are a wonderful example and I’m so happy I found you from radical step moms!

LOVE
I really don’t know how to put into words how much I love this podcast. As a member of a blended family, I am thankful for Jess, Matt, and Steve sharing their story with us.

Heartfelt and engaging
I started listening to HIL in an effort to expand my understanding of LGBTQ issues, and especially the complexities of navigating the challenges of growing up in the LDS culture and learning to embrace an authentic lifestyle. And I did gain all that through this show and Steve and Jessica’s story. But I’ve gotten so much more as they’ve shared their experiences and vulnerability in regards to blended families, relationships with ex’s, and with each other. I’ve felt so validated in my own struggles with my step kids and my husbands high conflict ex-wife. The discussions on setting and honoring boundaries, and navigating sometimes difficult relationships has been a godsend, and I look forward to my Wednesday commutes each week so I can listen to each new episode. Such a fantastic example of figuring out what works for each person individually, and all coming together to provide the best environment possible for the kids involved 💖 Keep up the good work. You are enriching lives and blessing those who listen.

This podcast has helped my wife and I go through a similar situation ourselves. When I came out to my wife I felt hopeless along with her and we were directed to this podcast. It has been a bright light during a difficult time for us. Jess, Matt, and Steve are inspiring individuals and I hope to have a future relationship with my wife and her next husband like Steve has with Matt and Jess! Thank you for sharing your journey.

I don’t know how I came across husband in law but I don’t regret it. They have a way of telling stories and their life that captures you and you can’t quit. Sometimes Jessica will do a solo episode and it’s so informative!

I want a gift
I have known Jessica and Steve since there history in Colorado Springs. and I have never written a review before on anything but I herd in one of the last podcasts that Jessica was going to give a gift to those that did so why not lol. Also I don’t know if I was the only one you came out to that way Steve but I definitely remember that conversation in your bus on the way to the support group about why it was so easy for you to be in a yoga class with all those ladies lol. I want to let you know that I love you now as much as I loved you then. I’m sorry if I haven’t show it I love you guys Larry

Vulnerable and Inspiring
I am new to the podcast but I’m already hooked! I love the fact that hard topics are open for discussion and that vulnerability is woven in each episode. If I have an hour of time to listen, I don’t want scripted and canned conversation - you won’t find that here! These three humans model humanity and vulnerability. Keep making more!

Episode 69
I listened to this episode to support my friend who I served a mission with, and went to BYU-Idaho with. I felt the hosts were very disrespectful, I felt the entire time they weren’t listening to Tyler. Nor did it feel like they cared. Felt very unprofessional. That’s just me. But I didn’t feel like they invested any time to learning about him. Not good hosts.
