#10 A different approach to calorie counting
Calorie counting is typically seen as a the way to start seeing weight loss.  However, simply saying eat less and move more clearly hasn't worked for everyone. Why is this? Is there a missing piece to how we look at calories? What happens when we count calories in the long term? Listen to this week's podcast to hear some of my thoughts on the topic.   Medic Mums Weight Loss Academy waitlist: https://www.doctoraishah.com/wait    Other episodes to listen to: #2 What impacts your calorie intake? #5 Are you hungry? #9 Show yourself compassion to lose weight
Self-loathing never gets us anywhere - you know this because that negative conversation you've had with yourself has not led to the weight loss you were hoping for. As medics and as mothers, we show compassion on a daily basis to those around us. It's safe to say, we have a lot of experience in this skill - yet we fail to apply that very same compassion to ourselves. Lack of compassion only drags us down the rabbit hole of never understanding why we feel rubbish, why our body size keeps growing and why we can't seem to shift the weight. In this episode, we talk about what compassion and kindness are, why it's important and the steps you can take to start developing a more compassionate attitude towards yourself.   Medic Mums Weight Loss Academy waitlist: https://www.doctoraishah.com/wait    Books to read: Resilient by Rick Hanson     Join the facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weightlossformedicalmums

#8 Accept the imperfect you
Today's episode stems from my own journey to overcome my perfectionist tendencies. Trying to seek our "perfect", in my opinion, holds you back from the perfectly imperfect present that you have. In this episode, I talk about what perfectionism is, how it can hold you back from taking action and the impact this can have on your weight loss journey.   Episodes mentioned: #7 Combat emotional eating from the root   Quotes mentioned: If we can't make peace with ourselves as we are, we will never be able to make peace with ourselves. This requires the courage to be imperfect. - From a speech by Rudolf Dreikurs, M.D. University of Oregon, July 25, 1957 Papers mentioned: Greenspon, Thomas S. "'Healthy perfectionism' is an oxymoron! Reflections on the psychology of perfectionism and the Sociology of Science." Journal of Secondary Gifted Education, vol. 11, no. 4, summer 2000, pp. 197+. #7 Combat emotional eating from the root
Emotional eating is a big problem many medic mums face. Our lives are full of emotions driven by the different hats we wear in life. Unfortunately, knowing how to deal with these emotions is lacking which is why so many emotionally eat. We respond to feelings by eating, instead of feeling.   In this episode, we discuss what emotional eating is, how to recognise your feelings and why this process is important if you want to combat your emotional eating behaviours.   Episodes mentioned: #5 Are you hungry? #6 Changing your thoughts - the gateway to real results
Change your thoughts if you want to lose weight.   A bold statement. It doesn't involve a particular diet or exercise plan but it asks you to do something that is groundbreaking. Hard? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.   In this episode, we discuss the relationship before events that occur, our thought responses and how this ultimately puts us in a place where we end up far from the results we are seeking.    As a doctor mum on a weight loss journey, learning to work through the responses you have to stressful events is a key skill to develop.   Join the facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weightlossformedicalmums

#5 Are you hungry? The hunger scale
Are you hungry? If your belly is currently rumbling, you might say yes. Otherwise maybe you need to think about it or perhaps you say no straight away. One of the reasons why we overeat is because we lack an intuitive and mindful approach to our hunger. We are never taught what hunger actually is nor how to tune in to recognise if we feel hungry. This episode goes through some basic hunger questions to ask yourself as well as briefly explains the hunger scale.   Join the facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weightlossformedicalmums

#3 The power of words in a weight loss journey
The secret sauce to losing weight is not a particular diet or exercise plan (shock horror I know!!).   The real secret to helping you achieve your weight loss goals as a busy doctor (or any other goal for that matter) is to be concious of the words you are using.   In this episode, I outline why I believe words play a big role in helping us put actions in place and some steps you can take to making that happen for yourself.   Join the facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weightlossformedicalmums   Read the shownotes: www.doctoraishah.com/episode3
