In this episode, Rachelle and Erika talk about the parent’s side of living with a child with a rare disease and illnesses. If you missed it, you will want to go back and listen to episode 5 where Erika opens up and shares a small piece of her story. Rachelle has lived with invisible illnesses her whole life and now helps her kids to navigate life with them. She shares some of the ups and downs of life with 5 kids and kids with challenges. Some of the struggles can hit hard, especially when dealing with specialists, family and friends. Rachelle also chats about some things they would change and how she would do things very differently now. Erika also shares her perspective and they have a conversation about navigating those challenges as a child and now as an adult. One of the most important things they want you to know is to trust your gut. You are the parent and you know your child the best. You will have to make some hard choices and ultimately, do what is best for you, your child and your family. Each situation is so different and that is ok.
