Tinnitus Chronicles – Episode 7 – Handling Tinnitus While You Sleep (Part 1)
Once you have been diagnosed with Tinnitus, one of the first things that will happen is that you may be fitted with some type of device for your ears. This could be some amplification in one or both ears or it could be a more advanced device that also has some masking functionality to help "hide" your tinnitus sound in such a way that your mind doesn't hear it. It might be something else entirely depending on what your ENT or hearing aid provider feels is best for your particular situation. That helps you during the day but what about at night. Most of the solutions that I am aware of can't be left in the ear at night. This means as soon as you go to bed, your old buddy Tinnitus will be back in full form. I didn't realize until after I was diagnosed with Tinnitus how long I had been compensating for it and dealing with it at night. I had been leaving the TV on when I turned in for the night and then turning it off when I woke up some time during the night. This isn't an option in all cases. One of the first solutions I found was a device from a company called Sound+Sleep. Granted there are a whole host of companies out there that produce a device that plays a variety of sounds from white/pink noise to rain. The folks at Sound+Sleep take this to an entirely different level.

Tinnitus Chronicles – Episode 5 – Earplugs Part 2 and MicroTransponder
In this version of Tinnitus Chronicles, I talk about earplugs for a specific use. There are times that you want to hear what is going on around you. There are two types of earplugs that will reduce the pressure or loudness of the music/sound you want to hear and you can still enjoy the music/sound more than if you used hearing protection that offered maximum protection from loud sounds. Dubs is produced by the folks at Doppler Labs. One music publication, EarMilk, has mandated that hearing protection be worn by anyone who is representing the publication at any concert or outdoor event. When you look at the DopplerLabs website, it is impressive the amount of detail that they have gone into. While not giving away any trade secrets, they show you all of the parts that make up the product known as Dubs. They didn't have to do that but it gives you additional level of comfort to know that you are making an informed decision. After Episode 4 of the podcast was released, I was contact by the folks at Macks. They gave me a link to videos on their website that show a way of inserting their earplug called the reach over technique. Here is the link to their videos - http://www.macksearplugs.com/instructional_videos.php. In this episode, I talk about a different earplug from Macks that reduces the sound pressure or loudness of what you are listening to but allows you to hear more of the actual music/audio than is possible with the higher isolation level of the Macks Earplugs I talked about in Episode 4. In the 2nd segment of this podcast, I talk about a possible treatment option called the Serenity System from the folks at http://www.microtransponder.com. This is a device that is implanted much like a pacemaker. In this case, a lead is attached to the Vegas nerve which allows the device to work with your brain to lessen or eliminate the tinnitus sound that you hear. Tinnitus Chronicles – Batteries Part 2 and EarMilk mandates use of earplugs
In Tinnitus Chronicles Episode 3, I finish the conversation on batteries. This time I talk about the pros and cons of rechargeable batteries. With a background in Amateur Radio I have some experience with rechargeable batteries. Depending on the size of batteries that your devices use, rechargeable may be not as much help as you would think. I also talk about EarMilk and their requirement that everyone representing the publication wear earplugs to protect their hear. They have their folks using the Earbuds from Doppler Labs.

Tinnitus Chronicles – Episode 2 – Hearing Aid Batteries & TinnitusTrack Review
Welcome to Tinnitus Chronicles Episode #2. In this first part of a 2 part series, I discuss the different kinds of batteries you may be dealing with, and how to take care of them. There are 4 different types of batteries in this category and have been color coded to make it easier to remember their size and that you get the right one. In the 1st part of this two part episode, I talk about a product that has potential for being able to treat your tinnitus. Since this is considered a medical device by US standards, it will have to be approved by the FDA. The graphic from the Tinnitus Tracks website gives you a rough idea of what their product does. You, in conjunction with your hearing aid provider, identify the tone or frequency of your tinnitus and that is removed from the music your are listening to. Your own tinnitus sound is used as part of the treatment process.
