Today Becs and Becky chat about how everyone in education has a huge responsibility to communicate kindly with children and importantly we talk about the ways children really shouldn't be spoken to or treated. We discuss the need to be professional and use our research based practice. Communicate how we would to our friends, if a friend did something you thought was wrong what would you do ? We are the holders of children's wellbeing now and in the future, so we must practice with careful and kind communication and we must make sure that the environments we work in reflect this. Really value getting to know the children. We know shouting at and shaming children is wrong and we have a duty to do something about this, be the person that makes the difference, be the child's advocate and challenge unkind and unprofessional behaviour. Enable children to feel safe, to be loved and to thrive ... the way forward is with you.Thank you for listening and being part of this amazing educators community And remember we really are here for you if you need support or to chat just email [email protected] We offer one - one communication and play sessions for childrenThriving Language CIC training consultancy early years and communicationThriving Language Podcasts Apple, Spotify, Amazon and Buzzsprouts Published Speech and Language in the Early Years - Creating Language Rich Environments - Routledge 2022.Grab a cuppa and join us for a ten min listen, it might just be the best thing you hear.We had a great time at Dr Mine Conkbayir book launch and highly recommend her latest book The Neuroscience of the Developing Child Self-Regulation for Wellbeing and a Sustainable Future it will bring the research needed for educationalist and families to understand what is actually happening for the child and their brain development when we use outdated practices such as time out, shaming and shouting plus so much more, so discover and see why we always say educators truly are #brainscientists Creating environments where all children are understood

Here the Beckies chat with Lynette about understanding schema play and supporting children's confidence. Confidence should be the first thing we support, do the children see themselves as a worthwhile person ? How are the children responded to and are they respected? Noticing what children are say is crucial and how we respond to children's communications is key to confidence building. Does the child feel worthwhile let't think about our responses, how does your self esteem feel in your environment and how does this feel for the children in your care? Children need to be seen and heard, we need to understand gestures and look for schemes from a very young age. Have a 10 min listen and discover more about schemas, what is the child really telling us and how do we could respond ? Building confidence needs to be at the heart of all practice whatever age child you teach or live with. Children get an idea of how worthwhile a person they are at the age of six (yr 1 children), their self esteem can be boosted by teachers with a great knowledge of schema play and with educators and family around them who not only listen but who teach through extension of the child's lines of inquiry. Lynette gives us some great examples of this... Tune in, affirm and respond.Find out about mastery patterns of behaviour and ensure you are the teacher/educator who tunes in, affirms and responds allowing children to thrive now and for their future. Making the people of tomorrow is a huge responsibility and we need to get this right! We follow the children's patterns of play and lines of enquiry so that children gain confidence in their thoughts and ideas. We never want to tell a child who they are or shape a child we should teach in a way that enables and enhances who they are and what they are communicating to us. www.SchemaPlay.com Head over for all your schema play training - taster session with a special discount for Thriving Language Podcast Listeners [email protected] [email protected] we love to hear from you email us if you have something you would love to chat about on our Podcast and for all your training needs.www.thrivinglangague.co.uk 1:1 Speech language communication and play sessions available. Here the Beckies chat about why we need to see the whole child? We unpick how to understand that each child and adult has something they are amazing at doing however not all subjects are celebrated and not all talents are seen or understood. We discuss why testing children doesn't work and explore why its the educators knowledge of the child that really matters. Becs and Becky chat about the cost of the child's happiness when they are tested, what environment will you create for the children you work or live with ? Why are measurements of children deemed so high and children viewed as very clever if they are good in 'core subjects' why are these core subjects and what does it feel like for children to climb a ladder in their classroom or be left on the first rung when they don't meet an adults expectation. For the sake of targets don't damage children's self esteemHow do we work with every single child. We touch on the importance of understanding dyslexia and really think the insight in Kate Griggs amazing book This is dyslexia will help all educationalist to re-evaluate and understand children.
