This week my fabulous guest is the Ginge Unhinged, Victoria Hardy.
Victoria shares her journey living with severe endometriosis as a teen, the taboo around periods as a child and the lack of support and knowledge at this time in the 90's.
She endured countless operations to remove cysts and eventually her diagnosis at age 19 led Victoria and Mr Ginge to start a family, in their early twenties.
What followed was multiple miscarriages, and premature births, but still the medical knowledge of the condition was limited. After the birth of her two children, the chronic symptoms of endometriosis returned and doctors advised a hysterectomy.
This massive operation, despite its complications did initially seem to resolve all the problems, but very soon depression, anxiety and seriously dark days became the norm.
Victoria's therapist rightly identified that she was experiencing the effects of Surgical Menopause, a little known condition that effects thousands of women across the world for various reasons.
This podcast follows Victoria's journey from her teens to today. In her 40th year around the sun, she has published a fantastic journal documenting her own memoirs: My Menopause, My Journal, My Rules - and in it she invites her readers to journal, release, reflect and take ownership of their own feelings and experiences.
This book is stunning, and hilarious and should be on every womans book pile. If not to bring women experiencing menopause in all its guises together in their knowledge and community, but to educate us all in advance.
