Nichelle Calhoun has chased stories of the Black experience internationally and nationally. Perpetual Blackness brings that search back to her roots in the D.C. metro area, where she believes her past and present intersect most poetically. Perpetual Blackness tells the stories of the DMV’s many layers of diasporic Blackness as it parallels Nichelle’s family’s journey over nine generations — from enslavement in rural Virginia to contemporary life in one of the country’s Blackest, bougiest suburbs.
