S2 Ep 4: Intersectionality (and more) in Nutrition
Firstly: this is not a COVID-19 related episode. Both of us want to keep our podcast anxiety-free when it comes to that side of things, but we do want to give our listeners our best wishes and hope you are staying safe and at home in this unpredictable time. In this ep, we talk about how society and culture has affected and can affect nutrition and health outcomes. This includes discrimination, the patriarchy, feminism, diet culture and more. If there’s one thing we ask you to do after this pod it’s make a list of your own privileges in the world - whether that be gender, race, ability, education, and anything else you can think of! *Jargon-y terms: Universal Health System: where the government covers all or most of your medical needs (e.g. in Australia, we have Medicare) Cis-gender: a person whose sense of personal identity and gender corresponds with their birth sex Queer (in regard to gender identity): umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities who are not heterosexual or are not cisgender Capitalist society: an economic/political system where a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. Patriarchy: a social system where men hold the primary power, and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of property. DISCLAIMERS: Apologies if you can hear typing in the background of the episode! Important work things happening during these crazy times. Apologies for the delay in the audio between the two of us! We will get this cross-continental podcasting down pat soon (we hope). --- BOOKS “Happy Fat” - Sofie Hagen “A Room of One’s Own” - Virginia Woolf “Adults” - Emma Jane Unsworth “The Testaments” - Margaret Attwood SCREENS Man In the High Castle (Amazon Prime) Muby RuPaul’s Drag Race (Netflix) Allana Davison (@allanaramaa) - YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCewjCoiB__Fikintrj0uLfg MUSIC KT Tunstall - “Suddenly I See”, “Drastic Fantastic (album)” Sara Bareilles - “Love Song”, “Fairytale” HAIM Maggie Rogers Bran’s IWD2020 Playlist - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1xGwqMLfYuKmUbmk7tJqoF?si=X9-K83akSLubxvbmjGl0TQ “Lady Marmalade (Like a Version) - G Flip --- FIND US Bran: www.instagram.com/arebrandedlife www.twitter.com/arebrandedlife www.arebrandedlife Liza: www.instagram.com/lizakhins www.twitter.com/lizakhins www.lizakhins.com OUR WORK BRAN - dietetic consults at The Wellness Workshop https://www.thewellnessworkshop.com.au  LIZA - Dietetic consults in East London or online (intuitive eating & eating disorder recovery) + online courses + resources & training for professionals at the London Centre for Intuitive Eating:  Https://londoncentreforintuitiveeating.co.uk USE CODE PANTRYPARTY FOR £50 off ALL ONLINE COURSES + RESOURCE BUNDLES Our Goodreads accounts: Bran: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/90825493-branavie Liza: https://www.goodreads.com/lizakhins And here’s how to tell us you love the pod! www.thepantryparty.org www.instagram.com/thepantryparty [email protected] Theme song by Ross Davidson: @rossco_davo Artwork and graphics by Caitlin Preyser: @caitlinmadethis https://caitlinpreyser.myportfolio.com/

S2 Ep 3: Self-care Fundamentals and Work-life Balance
In this ep, we intended to talk about self-care and getting that work-life balance going...but it turned into how society and the system really doesn’t help us achieve that and be the healthiest versions of ourselves. There are a few big words so here are some definitions and resources for more information:  Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s_hierarchy_of_needs  “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” - Preamble to the Constitution of WHO as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19 June - 22 July 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of WHO, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on 7 April 1948. The definition has not been amended since 1948. (https://www.who.int/about/who-we-are/frequently-asked-questions) Health equity: “Equity is the absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically or by other means of stratification. "Health equity” or “equity in health” implies that ideally everyone should have a fair opportunity to attain their full health potential and that no one should be disadvantaged from achieving this potential.” - https://www.who.int/topics/health_equity/en/ BOOKS Moment of Lift - Melinda Gates Animals - Emma Jane Unsworth The Insecure Girl’s Handbook - Olivia Purvis It’s Not Okay to Feel Blue and Other Lies - Scarlett Curtis By the Light of the Moon OTHER The Insecure Girl’s Club @theinsecuregirlsclub, https://www.theinsecuregirlsclub.com/ What Olivia Did - @livpurvis, https://whatoliviadid.com/ TV Fleabag (Amazon Prime) Marvellous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime) Modern Love (Amazon Prime) PODCASTS Do Go On The Fringe of It MUSIC The Maine --- FIND US Bran: www.instagram.com/arebrandedlife www.twitter.com/arebrandedlife www.arebrandedlife Liza: www.instagram.com/lizakhins www.twitter.com/lizakhins www.lizakhins.com OUR WORK BRAN - Dietetic consults at The Wellness Workshop https://www.thewellnessworkshop.com.au  LIZA - Dietetic consults in East London or online (intuitive eating & eating disorder recovery) + online courses + resources & training for professionals at the London Centre for Intuitive Eating: https://londoncentreforintuitiveeating.co.uk USE CODE PANTRYPARTY FOR £50 off ALL ONLINE COURSES + RESOURCE BUNDLES Our Goodreads accounts: Bran: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/90825493-branavie Liza: https://www.goodreads.com/lizakhins And here’s how to tell us you love the pod! www.thepantryparty.org www.instagram.com/thepantryparty [email protected] Theme song by Ross Davidson: www.instagram.com/rossco_davo Artwork and graphics by Caitlin Preyser: www.instagram.com/caitlinmadethis https://caitlinpreyser.myportfolio.com/
