Show notes

Three decades on from the iconic show and costume designer Stephen Adnitt talks about his role in creating the look that will never be forgotten.

Designing logos for tiny costumes was just one of the problems he faced and Jet reveals that hers was a bit ‘Freddy Krueger’. Each one took up to 40 hours just for painting and cost a cool £600.

They had to be replaced after every season as each Gladiator had two sets. Each was made in white lycra first for fittings - and some of the bigger guys were a problem for the costume makers more used to the Royal Ballet.

Steve also remembers how worried he was when Warrior was injured - not about the Gladiator, but his costume. The hospital cut it off him and Steve was far from happy.
