Today, we’re in Week 5 of a 6-week series that Darrell taught on the Gospel of John in 1996 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California, and stepping into one of Darrell’s most beloved parts of Scripture. John has long been a favourite of his—he’s spent decades returning to it, teaching it, and inviting others to encounter Jesus through its pages.In this message, Darrell examines a story from John 4:43–54. In this passage, we meet a royal official who comes to Jesus desperate—his son is dying, and he’s looking for a miracle. But what unfolds is not quite what he expected. Instead of immediately going with him, Jesus speaks a challenging word. Darrell draws our attention to the power of Jesus’ voice. We find that a word from Jesus doesn’t just describe reality, but creates it. His word invites us to trust, obey, and give up control, even when we can’t yet see the outcome.
