הוראה ממ"ש ברביעי דפ' שופטים "וכי יבוא הלוי מאחד שעריך.. בכל אות נפשו אל המקום אשר יבחר ה' ושרת בשם ה' אלקיו ככל אחיו הלוים וגו'". זאת אומרת, שכאשר כהן בא אל ביהמ"ק מתי שרוצה יכול להקריב קרבנותיו גם אם זה לא המשמר שלו. ויתירה מזו, בבואו לביהמ"ק (ברגל) יכול גם להשתתף בעבודה דשאר הקרבנות שבאים באותו זמן (עיין בפרש"י עה"פ)! וההוראה בנוגע למשכן הרוחני שבכל אחד ואחת: כאשר "נדבה רוחו אותו" לעסוק בעבודה מסויימת, אף אם זו היתה צריכה להעשות ע"י אחר, ניתנה לו הזכות לעבוד עבודה זו.

Revi’i of parashas Shoftim begins, “If a Levite comes from one of your cities…he may come whenever his soul desires to the place Hashem will choose, and serve in the name of Hashem his G-d like all his Levite brothers…” This teaches that when a kohen comes to the Beis Hamikdash, whenever he wishes, he is permitted to offer his own korbanos even if it is not the time of his designated priestly watch. Moreover, when he comes to the Beis Hamikdash (on a festival) he is allowed to join in the service of the other korbanos during that time (see Rashi). The lesson for the spiritual Sanctuary within every Jew is that when one’s spirit inspires him to undertake a particular form of Divine service – even if that task would ordinarily have been performed by someone else – he is granted the privilege of doing it himself.
