"How long is this going to take!?"
I see many times a service technician can do everything right and still blow call opportunities. We live in a very fast paced era coupled with the ability to satisfy instant urges.  Years past, if you ordered a product from a catalog or a store, you would need to fill out an order form from the back of a catalog or spend a good amount of time on the phone placing your order.  You would then typically send payment in the form of a check or money order and it could take up to 4 weeks before you saw it on your doorstep.  Technology today allows consumers to order goods with a few simple taps on their phones.  Thanks to online stores like Amazon, if the product shows up in more than a couple of days, we start to get agitated and wonder what happened. “Did my socks get stolen, or lost!?”The service industry today is no different.  When a customer has a problem, before they call they are already able to determine approximately what it will cost to have either their furnace or air conditioner repaired. They google terms like “how much will it cost to have my furnace/ ac fixed”, etc. which typically results in a price range of 550.00 for a tune up  to 1600.00 for a blower and then anywhere in between.  Some customers will take it a step further in an attempt to get a better understanding of their budget by googling specific issues they may be experiencing with their equipment. Don’t misinterpret these folks as DIY’ers as is often done. They are educated buyers.

The APEX Technician Service Call Process: Step #5 Interview
The interview process is a way to clarify the customers expectations as well as for you to have the opportunity to close the first impression door.  What that means is, if you nail the following instruction down perfectly as well as connect on a personal level with the customer, the rest of your call should be smooth sailing.  Think of it as putting closure to the formalities. Don’t mistake that from continuing to be professional, as your professionalism should continue throughout the course of the entire call.
