Women have so very rarely been allowed to be truly free, unencumbered, and as autonomous as men. Thus, so many women’s contributions throughout history have been cut short. It’s easy to believe the societal narrative that we are without value if we have not been chosen to bear a man’s children or take his last name, but that’s not true. For some women living in this paradigm might make them satisfied. But for some women, we must be free to walk a path our foremothers could not. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the ripe old age of 28 and while it was at times difficult, it ultimately changed my life for the better. I finally understand why my brain is the way it is, and why some things are so easy for me, and others near impossible! I’m not lazy, crazy, a failure or stupid— I’m just different. In my 10+ years as a holistic vocal coach, the three biggest issues I’ve seen with singers has very little to do with the mechanics of singing and everything to do with the mental game.
