Many find history boring. The reality, though, is that it has been the way it was taught to them rather than the subject. There is much to learn from history and people's lives throughout the ages. My guest today is Annette Laing, author of Non-Boring History, a blog which does what it says in the title. I recommend you take a look at Annette's blog and enjoy her explanation of history. The Great Plague was devasting for many cities in England, and when it reached the village of Eyam, it could have spread across the north of the country. In this interview, we hear from Owen Roberts, the curator of Eyam Museum. Every town, village or area of land has a name. The history behind these names is fascinating and can tell us a lot about the past. Do you know why the place you live has the name that it has? I am delighted that Jennifer Jenkins accepted my invitation to join me on Roland's Travels.  Jennifer has written a fabulous novel, Three, based on real people living in the Derbyshire village of Eyam during 1665/66 when the Bubonic plague struck the village. The villagers went into lockdown to protect the surrounding population. The story is told through the eyes of three women, hence the title, and Jennifer brings to life how events must have unfolded. Jennifer's website is a good source of information and one of the places you can purchase her book through Amazon.
