As cycle breakers, we are going to mess up. it's inevitable because it is a continual learning process on this journey of learning to parent differently. Which is OKAY you have no reason to feel shame over mess-ups. Mistakes are how we learn. but we do have to make things right with our kids when we mess up. This is why logical or correlated consequences aren't working for your kids. It's not that you need a better consequence, you need to adapt your mindset to accommodate what the purpose of a consequence really is. In order to encourage cooperation with our children we need to ensure that they realize that we are on the same team. We always feel like we are on their team and in their corner but a lot of times we will unintentionally send a message that we are against them or that we see them as the problem and whenever emotions are high this is an easy thing to see.
