【EP6: Strengthening Cultural and Academic Bridges through the New Southbound Policy: A Tale of Two Scholars】
Welcome to “New Southbound Warm Power Up”! This podcast is curated by Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF) and produced by Heartwave.
What does TAEF do? We are dedicated to advancing the New Southbound Policy, fostering friendly relationships with Southeast Asian societies through “soft power” and “warm power” in areas such as cultures and arts, academic think tanks, youth leadership, regional resilience, and civil society. After years of effort, we are thrilled to present the first season of our podcast, which consists of six episodes and seven short segments. Hope you have a wonderful listening experience!
Since the founding of the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF), it has fostered close ties with numerous domestic and foreign scholars through events such as the Yushan Forum and other fora, events, and programs. When foreign scholars come to Taiwan, they bring a piece of their home country with them, and upon return, they take a bit of Taiwan back. Similarly, when Taiwanese scholars venture abroad, they showcase Taiwan on the world stage and introduce the world to its culture and richness. These grassroot connections significantly deepen exchanges and mutual understanding.
In this episode, we are privileged to host two special guests to delve into this topic further. Dr. Sana Hashmi, a young scholar from India, currently on a postdoctoral fellowship at TAEF will offer her insights on Taiwan-India relations, the New Southbound Policy, and her perspective on Taiwan as a whole given she has been living in Taiwan for over four years now and calls Taiwan her home. Additionally, Roger Liu, a Taiwanese scholar, has been teaching in India for over eight years. He will share how his experiences in India have shaped his approach to fostering exchanges between Taiwan and India, as well as ways to strengthen ties between the two countries. The two scholars we have the privilege of hosting today are solid examples of how exchanges and mutual understanding can promote relations. Welcome to the TAEF podcast, Dr. Hashmi and Dr. Liu.

【 Ep.5: Resilience Connectivity - Asian countries work together to prevent disasters】
Welcome to the podcast series ”New Southbound Warm Power Up,“ produced and brought to you by the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF) and Heartwave. Let our guest speakers of each episode share the significant achievements of TAEF in advancing the New Southbound Policy with you!
The theme of this episode is “Resilience Connectivity - Asian countries work together to prevent disasters.” Asia faces severe natural disastrous challenges. Almost all Asian countries have abundant experience in disaster prevention. In view of this fact, TAEF launched the Asia Regional Resilience Consortium (ARC) in 2019, hoping to create a platform for mutual communication and a cross-think tank, cross-field, and cross-industry cooperative network. In this episode, we invited Ms. Ya-Ting Lin of TAEF and Secretary-General Charity Huang of the Taiwan Association of Disaster Prevention Industry to share the stories and achievements of Taiwan’s disaster prevention diplomacy. They will also introduce the development of Taiwan’s disaster prevention industry, disaster-preventing capabilities, and disaster prevention technology, which is highly praised by the international society.

To foster cross-generational and cross-boundary exchanges on human rights issues, Taiwan Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Taiwan joined hands in organizing 【**Human Rights in Asia: A Multigenerational Dialogue】 **in July this year. This event brought together human rights defenders from Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Taiwan to explore how human rights have evolved and ways in which we can collaborate to address shared challenges and opportunities in Asia.
This event is part of the 【2024 SEASAT Youth Camp】, an annual flagship event organized by the TAEF that brings together aspiring young leaders from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Taiwan, and other like-minded nations to exchange ideas on global issues and youth's participation. The forum will be broadcasted in two episodes. Let’s tune in for the first part!
