Show notes
Indigenous sovereignty is a sticky concept, yet its definition is hard to pin down. Is sovereignty a legal framework? A cultural one? Or is it all about broken promises? Elsa Barron and Molly Miltko pose these questions to native students, faculty, and alumni at the University of Notre Dame and work to unpack the answers with visiting professor Dr. Justin de Leon. Join them as they ultimately find hope in a multifaceted definition of sovereignty that provides room to imagine a different kind of future.

Season one of Naïveté involves the exploration of a class of settler students at the University of Notre Dame, situated on the traditional lands of the Pokagon Band of the Potowatomi, into the modern life and experience of Native Americans (not to mention all of the histories they were never taught). This series helps them overcome some of their naïveté about indigenous communities. They invite you to join them in their education.
