Mike and Kim Barnes are the Founders of Parenting Aging Parents, a source of information, resources, and community for people caring for their aging parents. Mike and Kim have over 30 years of experience in television and media. Kim has worked as an award-winning reporter and news anchor for over 15 years, while Mike spent 29 years of his career as an award-winning sportscaster. In their journey balancing their careers, parenting their college-age kids, and caring for their aging parents, they realized that many people undergo the same experiences, yet never talk about them. They created Parenting Aging Parents to support adult children undergoing the same trials.

Mike and Kim join me today to discuss how adult children can manage overwhelm when parenting their aging parents. They share why they started the Parenting Aging Parents community and explain how it has impacted people. They describe the grief and emotional heaviness involved in taking care of parents. They also highlight how aging parents do not choose to be dependent and underscore the importance of looking for a community of adult children taking care of aging parents.

“Don’t act like you can do it all by yourself. It’s okay to get help.” - Mike Barnes
