RHR Episode 21 with Dr. Adrian Chavez
Dr. Chavez operates an virtual nutrition practice specializing in digestive health and cardiovascular and metabolic disease and he is also the host of the Your Nutrition Prescription podcast. Dr. Chavez holds a doctorate in Nutrition and Heath Promotion from Arizona State University and a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Exercise Science.   Apologies for the podcast hiatus. I've been doing something brooding, and after much thought decided I'll be shifting retitling the podcast and shifting its focus of the podcast to strictly rheumatology and autoimmune disease. More on that later. For now, one of the last few episodes of Robust Health Radio feature the expertise of Dr. Adrian Chavez Dr. Chavez and I crossed paths on Instagram, where I came across a post her put together tearing apart bulletproof coffee. Dr. Chavez has a PhD in Nutrition from Arizona State University. The focus of his studies during his training was insulin sensitivity as it relates to cardiovascular and metabolic disease. So in this episode we go over his top nutrition myths, including: "Insulin is part of the fat storage process, therefore carbs and insulin make you fat." What you might not know about blood vessel function as it relates to insulin. "LDL Cholesterol doesn't matter when it comes to cardiovascular risk."  How to best way to screen for cardiovascular risk. I don't know if I fully agree with Dr. Chavez on these next two, but he has some interesting insights and we did find some middle ground: "Vegetable oils is very bad for you." "Saturated fat improves insulin sensitivity." "Carbs cause inflammation." Why a response to a ketogenic may be diagnostic of deeper issues. Don't miss this one.
