Kate had me meet... Dana Gage.
I was fortunate to cross paths with Dana during a stay in Waco, Texas two years ago. As I battled cancer, she shared her battle of living life without her son Connor. After losing him to a preventable accident, Dana has lived a life pursuing water safety and drowning prevention. Her story is powerful, and we can all be better after listening.
Here in MN, we have had nearly 30 drowning accidents in 2021. It is July 1, and we have only had swimmable hot weather for a couple months.

Celebrating life, perspective, and humanity is usually the short version of how I explain this podcast. However, the roots of the podcast run deep. Today I unpack much of what brought me to the point of finally creating and publishing Kate Had Me Meet. The road wasn't easy, but it was needed.
The birth of our daughter Verabeth, devastating depression/anxiety, and a cancer diagnosis all happened within a seven month period in 2018-2019. It was amazing to discover how I reacted when forced to suddenly fight for my life. It was all very unexpected.
Thank you for listening. When I say it means the world... it really does, as you'll hear today. <3

Kate Had Me Meet... Jamie Nabozny.
Jamie is a new friend of mine and my family's here in the Twin Cities. It didn't take long to find out that he had a movie based off of his life... but for a story that broke my heart. Teased, tormented, bullied, and severely beaten in school, Jamie sought out safety for himself... and also historic justice. His lawsuit paved the way for students everywhere to have a safer school experience.

When I selected my favorite portions of Episodes 1-3, I noticed they each discussed race and/or privilege. While it is a favorite topic of mine, I truly love how three very different people discuss their relationship with race. It's a conversation we should all be having with ourselves and our circles. Mark Hagland was featured in episode 4, and we spoke a few days ago about his new book! Highlights from this conversation are featured in this episode as well. You can find his book at www.markhaglandbook.com
Thanks for listening to my guests!

Jill served on the east coast as an officer in the prison system. She was inspired to come forward after listening to Episode 8 with Officer Becki. She shares about what her career was like, relationships amongst coworkers, the treatment of inmates, and the staff culture. There are many things she sees more clearly now that she is out, and she has a lot to say about it.
