My grand daughter Aya Woods (freshman in Highschool) says that she is not learning much in school. We as a community a lot of time see teenagers as the problem, not the solution. Aya says She is feeling so bored and sad at school; she views what is being taught to her does not help create financial freedom. If we listen to our children we can know the direction we should take in the education system. After this interview, Aya felt she was heard not as a child but as an adult. Her dad came on the show and that encouraged her greatly. She said, she feels now more purposeful and hopeful.

Amidst the news of unrest in our youth in Southside Chicago, talking to the youth, Tabario, Asia, Khiari, brought tranquility and hope to our hearts. Jacquline Miller, the mentor at ABJ testifies that, working with these youth, has been such breath of fresh air; she felt like a child again, full of hope.We heard from family and friends of Tabario, Asia, Khiari, as how talented and true to their purpose they are. For the last two years, Lena Bivins and her sister Shante Marshall, are saying “helllo” to anyone they pass by, especially to those who are “unwanted” and in distress in their Woodlawn community. Everyday news of shootings, crimes does not deter them from getting out daily and embracing the weary in their neighborhood. This two sisters get their courage from the legacy their mother left behind. The mother, being in great mental and physical distress, kept on giving to their neighbors till her last days! We listened in awe, how this family turned daily distress into daily joy of giving to others and each other.

At the Precious Blood center, we learned of a great work being done in Englewood. The Catholic order has dedicated itself not on indoctrination, but on building a team/family that can help welcome youth offenders back into their community. They call it “Radical Hospitality”! There in the Woodlawn community, we spoke with John Shorter’s Jr.'s father.His 12 year old was wounded by three gun shots while playing basketball with his siblings.
