As most spring graduates celebrate this milestone and start their next adventures, three (TAMIU) Spring 2015 graduates and one Fall 2014 graduate are getting ready to continue their education at law school in the fall. TAMIU assistant professor of history, Dr. Aaron Olivas will spend two months as a summer research fellow at the Huntington Library in San Marino, Calif. The TAMIU mobile phone and tablet application, “TAMIU Mobile,” has been updated and redesigned to better fit TAMIU students' and visitors' needs.

An expansion of a highly successful TAMIU Literacy Enrichment Center program for elementary school students that strengthens reading and writing skills will happen thanks to a generous grant totaling $300,000 from the Trustees of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust. Over 100 local high school students who recently participated in the TAMIU ‘Reach Higher’ College Commitment Signing Day signed a commitment certificate promising to not only complete high school but to continue on to earn a higher education degree.

Candidates for graduation will participate in spring commencement at TAMIU Friday, May 22 in the Kinesiology and Convocation Building. Two TAMIU business student organizations were recognized for their exemplary contribution to the A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business at a special reception Tuesday, May 12. The family of Irma M. and Daniel B. Hastings has generously donated a portion of their orchid collection to Texas A&M International University to honor the memory of their late grandparents, avid orchid collectors. The TAMIU Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services was the recipient of two awards at the 13th Annual Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Del Oro Awards held at San Antonio’s Oak Hills Country Club last week.

A six-week program dedicated to helping young readers and their families develop strong literacy skills will celebrate the young readers with a special graduation ceremony Saturday, May 9 from 6 - 7 p.m. at the TAMIU Student Center Theatre, room 236. The TAMIU Hispanic Heritage Concert Series presents the legendary Los Tres Reyes in concert Saturday, May 3 at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.
