Sister, Sister: The Value of Sisterhood
Sister, Sister 🎶🎶 *insert Sister Sister theme song.* In this episode, we discuss the important role that female friendships play in our lives. As two women that were the only female children in our respective homes, over the years, we’ve both relied heavily on our girlfriends and the sisterly bonds they have brought to our lives. Friendships are crucial to growth, happiness, understanding of self, personality, and so much more. We are super grateful to the sisters in our lives and we hope you have women in your lives that you regard as closely as sisters too! So, drop a comment on our page on IG @inprogress_pod. Do you have female friends? How long have you been friends? What kind of value do they add to your life? Thanks for listening! From the Brilliance of Daniel Kaluuya to the first “Black” Bachelor : Black History Month 2021
Okay, we know. Technically, it’s no longer Black History Month. But the thing is, we celebrate our Blackness 24/7, 365 days a year. Today’s episode focuses on all things Black. In the beginning, we discuss Daniel Kaluuya’s segment on the the Higher Learning show on The Ringer YouTube channel. The segment is linked down below. We take time to reflect on some of his statements, primarily his statement that it doesn’t make sense to ask Black people, who themselves love Black people, why non-Black people don’t like Black people. Why are Black people constantly having to explain racism, when it’s not an institution that we created?  What are your thoughts about this? We’d love for you to share your thoughts via Instagram (@inprogress_pod). We also dive into a few other issues tied to racism and Anti-blackness, one of them being the current season of the Bachelor, which features a biracial bachelor. The bachelor, Matt James, is both Black and White and is regarded as the first Black bachelor in the show’s history. During the course of the show, allegations of racism came out against a contestant, and for some unknown reason, the host came to her defense and seriously downplayed her actions. Then, the host resigned. We discuss our thoughts about the whole situation. Suffice to say, it  has played out exactly as we expected. An article is linked below with more details. We’d love to find out more about what Black history means to you or if you have any other comments about this episode! As always, frop some comments via IG @inprogress_pod! Thanks for listening! Season 1 Episode 8: "Can We Just Chat For A Bit?" When Coro Coro Just Won't Go.
Our two most recent episodes about the#EndSars movement have been quite heavy, so we decided that today, we’re just going to chat. It has been a while since we discussed COVID-19 and how we feel about current events, so we took some time to catch up. Unfortunately, as public health officials had  predicted, the rate of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has risen significantly and continues to heavily impact our day to day lives. We hope you’re all well! It’s been a tough year, but we also recognize that many people have gained invaluable knowledge and perspective. Let us know your thoughts! Season 1 Episode 7: Soro Soke: The State of Nigeria Pt. 2
In part two of this series, hosts Christine and Emily discuss the role of social media in the End SARS movement and the aftermath of the Lekki Tollgate Massscre. What we know is this—- Nigeria will never be the same. People are upset and fed up with their living conditions. They deserve change and most importantly, they’re demanding change. In other words, all over the world, people are actively working to put an end to systems of oppression and systems of injustice. Our hope is that peace, justice, and equality will prevail. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/inprogresspod/message

Season 1 Episode 6: Soro Soke: The State of Nigeria Pt. 1
Nigeria, the native home of hosts Christine and Emily, is indescribably beautiful, overwhelmingly abundant, and rich in both talent and culture. However, as many of you well know, despite the beauty and the abundance, police brutality and harsh conditions have also plagued Nigeria for many, many years. Recently, these issues came to a head with the #EndSars movement. SARS, or the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, was created in Nigeria in 1992 and tasked with handling armed robberies, kidnappings, and other similar violent crimes. Rather than reducing crimes, instead, SARS officers themselves have inflicted the same crimes on Nigerian citizens as they have been tasked to prevent. Nigerian citizens, especially the Youth, have been arrested, tormented, harassed, and even killed for a number or trivial reasons, including but not limited to: their choice of clothing, their hairstyle, appearing to be “rich,” owning nice things, appearing to look like a “criminal,” owning technology, etc. In October 2020, the Youth decided to fight back by having peaceful protests all throughout Nigeria. The demand was simple: Freedom for all, peace and justice for all, and better pay, training, and psychological evaluations for officers. After two weeks, a curfew was put in place on October 20, 2020, and many protestors continued protesting at the Lekki Tollgate. While protesting, all lights in that area were turned off and in the pitch darkness, the army arrived and started shooting the unarmed, peaceful civilians. Many were injured and many were killed.  The Nigerian government has only recently acknowledged their role in this heinous act, and the actual count of those affected by this incident is still a mystery. Though we are just releasing this episode in November 2020, we actually recorded this a mere 5 days after the Lekki Tollgate Massacre. Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in Nigeria. You shouldn’t have had to risk your life to fight for your right to live. Season 1 Episode 5: "Protect Black Women"
Season 1, Episode 5: PROTECT BLACK WOMEN. In 1962, Malcolm X said, “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.” Unfortunately, this still rings true today. In light of the recent developments in the Breonna Taylor case and the popularization of the phrase "protect Black women,"  we wanted to dissect its true implications. This episode is the start of a larger conversation and we hope you, our Community, continue to discuss issues, unlearn behaviors, and perpetuate the safety of Black women in every space they occupy. After all, the protection of the Black woman is the work of the Community. Thanks for listening! If you’d like to share your thoughts, hit us up on social media @inprogress_pod on Instagram or by email at [email protected]. Season 1 Episode 4: “ (some) Men Are Trash: The Do’s and Don’ts of Dating.”
Season 1 Episode 4: In this episode, we discuss dating and relationships. Dating today is ...... a lot. Obviously, relationships take work, but what amount of work constitutes too much? Not enough? Have you ever thought about your boundaries, your needs, and your wants within the context of dating? If you haven’t yet, we urge you to. There’s no point to be in any kind of relationship (platonic, romantic, even professional)  that doesn’t serve you. Season 1 Episode 3: “What does self-care look like in the age of social media and social unrest?”
We recorded this episode mere days after the horrific shooting of Jacob Blake and unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman. This year, collectively, we’ve dealt with one tragedy right after another. We’re processing our pain and anger each day and working to find healthy ways to cope. We hope you’re able to do the same and hope you have folks in your corner that can support you. As the title suggests, this episode is about self-care in the age of social media and social unrest. After discussing this topic amongst ourselves, we came up with the following six strategies to help you stay sane in the midst of chaos: Recognize your worth and value. Know your limits. Be intentional about who you follow. Be conscious about what you consume. Allow yourself to experience joy- especially during times of grief and despair. Educate yourself about the issues, but not to the point of exhaustion. Have healthy coping mechanisms. Thank you for listening! Please let us know your thoughts!
