Since the Taliban took control in Afghanistan again in 2021, women have been prevented from studying and therefore from training to provide services to mothers, newborns, and children. Dr. Shatha Elnakib and colleagues used the LiST (Lives Saved Tool) modelling system, to illustrate what effects this might have on the workforce, the acceptability of predominantly-male led MNCH services to service users, and the subsequent effects on maternal and child mortality from a lack of care-seeking. 70 years ago this year, a researcher at University College of the West Indies in Jamaica published a paper in The Lancet describing a case series of patients with diabetes who did not have the typical hallmarks of type 1 or type 2 disease.
