Shortly after a motorcycle passed that didn't seem as loud as I expected it would on the recording, I mention a quote from Sebastian Junger's "Tribe", in full here:
“Here I have no master,” an anonymous colonial woman was quoted by the secretary of the French legation as saying about her life with the Indians. “I am the equal of all the women in the tribe, I do what I please without anyone’s saying anything about it, I work only for myself, I shall marry if I wish and be unmarried again when I wish. Is there a single woman as independent as I in your cities?”
Another quote, cited from Tribe and attributed to Ben Franklin: “When an Indian child has been brought up among us, taught our language and habituated to our customs, yet if he goes to see his relations and makes one Indian ramble with them, there is no persuading him ever to return. [But] when white persons of either sex have been taken prisoners young by the Indians, and lived a while among them, tho’ ransomed by their friends, and treated with all imaginable tenderness to prevail with them to stay among the English, yet in a short time they become disgusted with our manner of life, and the care and pains that are necessary to support it, and take the first good opportunity of escaping again into the woods, from whence there is no reclaiming them.”

Short as hell podcast today.
It’s still weird and not normal, huh?
Noticing what things feel like in your body?
Did you know that things feel different in your body?
When you’re deciding on going to this coffee shop or that beach, each consideration creates a different sensation profile—and by tuning into it you can tap into an intuition about what creates the Greater Good.
I know that the things that expand and are best for you have to be the best thing for the rest of us, too—even if we don’t like it at the time.
It cannot be good for me if it is also bad for you. It cannot be good for you if it is also bad for me.
By tapping into the sensations associated with various decisions, in our bodies/your body, we can tell if we should really come up with a third option, or a fifth, until something resonates at both our frequencies. Maybe it will take a little bit more time, and maybe it will save us a lot of regret (and time).
The part that makes this all easy, if you adopt it?
Wanting others to do what is actually best for them, in spite of how it may make me (or you) feel. It is an incredible relief for me personally when someone is outright honest with me and I can tell by the tone of their voice that their body would agree with them. They are operating at a level of coherence that most of us are deathly afraid to approach.
That’s the community I wish to have and be a part of. That’s the community I enjoy. The community whose “yes” and “no” I can trust.
I want to ask you how you’re feeling and you drop into what your body is telling you in reply.
That’s valuable.
That’s more certain.
And it’s for damn sure a thing that brings you into the present. I know, I know, I was writing a book about doing a meditation practice that can help with this. But I haven’t written in it for weeks.
Just try it now — how (or what) are you feeling?
Sensations-images-emotions-what those emotions feel like in your body-
Drop it in the comments so I can know you’re somebody I could check in with like this in the future.
To prove I care about creating spaces to learn this sort of thing, expand together, and know better about our own communication skills, I’m doing the first of three Listening courses this year. Listen Up 2 is where we gather for 4 sessions, weekly from Saturday April 13 - May 4, and journal, speak, and listen up to one another. It’s scheduled for 7pm EST/4pm PST each week so you can soak in the teachings before Monday’s fresh start.
Lemme ask you - how different would your life be if people really listened to you? And what if you could do that better for other people? That’s what we’re going to learn and experience together. Discounted registration (only 8 spots) until March 24 - my birthday *ahem* FYI.
$120 for 4 sessions together is a steal. $200 if you and a friend sign up together.

I’ve been trying a plethora of adult get-togethers and have some reporting from the field.
Want to meet people with the least amount of friction? Join other humans who are getting together to accomplish a task, like I did with Street Stewards, picking up trash, cleaning up a block in Escondido.
Want a little more friction? Join a Jiu-Jitsu gym or start seeking a new skill like I’m doing with Toastmasters.
I also discuss envisioning the greatest future possible and using that to draw you forward cosmically into the world and orienting the choices that you make.
Quick review of the idea that if you can’t release and own your feelings you can’t connect and you can’t make the world a better place.
Enjoy!

I question whether rules are being used as a mannequin for being personal, how messed up the health care training machine is (even if you like it), and introduce you to Chesterton’s Fence - the idea that you shouldn’t remove something before you’re able to tell somebody why it’s there in the first place and what it serves, while on a hike with Maggie in beautiful Escondido, CA.

Well, it's grief over the impending sale of my car I've owned since 2009 that I adore but am moving on from...but the principles still apply.
I also discuss joining a mentorship program 4-month container with the Existential Kink community, having a jolly Christmas alone, and what it means to do what's right for others or right for me.

Listen Up! was the name of the listening programs I ran with Colin Doyle.
After experiencing deep, grounded listening for the first time - at a Tantra festival in Hawaii in 2020 or 21 or whenever was just before Covid, I felt a new way of living was possible.
In this episode I'll discuss how easy it can be to begin learning how to listen, better.
I recommend practicing in a container with timers to get started. It's way way way much more effective to learn that way.
