Welcome to our Podcast! Our passion is to help business owners create a successful business whether they turn up or not. We’re REALLY good at understanding how business works, and therefore why a business isn’t working and what needs fixing. Our mantra is to always look for learning, so we’re on a mission to chat with business owners that have faced challenges, to share their stories, and delve really deep into their mindset. Business is a numbers game, played by a team, so we’ll be hooking up with coaches & leaders from the sporting world too.
Lucy McCarraher, Founder of Book Magic AI, Rethink Press & Business Book Awards. Director of Dent Global. Author, Speaker, Book Mentor & Publisher
This episode is full of really useful nuggets for business owners, and I can’t wait for an update from our guest on how her Scale journey is going because it’s been a while since we last spoke. This episode is with Lucy McCarraher, co-founder and CEO of the recently launched Book Magic AI book-writing app; co-founder of Rethink Press; and founder of the Business Book Awards. She is also Director of Dent Global and the Publish Mentor of the Key Person of Influence programme, where I first met her back in 2016. Lucy is the Host of the ABOO – A Book of One’s Own online support and mentoring group for women authors and aspiring authors and runs women’s mastermind groups and fiction-writing programmes. Lucy started her first publishing company while she was still at university and has worked in publishing and the media ever since. She has a post-graduate diploma in teaching Creative Writing and Literacy. Listen to learn: When setting up a business, start with a Concept in mind with Expertise behind it. The importance of Aligning your Passion to your Business. How to avoid getting the WRONG staff. Why you need to look for the good in things that disrupt the market, rather than panic about the bad things (i.e. AI). The importance of Values. Why you should celebrate “mistakes”. How to know if you’re going in the right direction. How to expand and set up new ventures that run whether you’re there or not. Why you need to take Leadership – NOT Ownership – of your culture. Sian Millar, Founder of Dizzy Ducks, Luxury Coastal Holiday Homes, Polka Dot Farm, and The Boardroom “Early Years”
In this episode, I catch up with someone who I have known and respected for many years, someone we’ve worked closely with in our business, and someone who is a friend that we’ve shared many trips – I know she doesn’t like to mention Everest Base Camp for one! This episode is with serial entrepreneur Sian Millar, who many of you will know from the Entrepreneurs Circle with her Dizzy Ducks hat on. Sian originally got into the nursery industry because of the lack of childcare in Essex when she was a working mum. To a mind like Sian’s, of course a problem is an opportunity so she left her stable job to create a nursery group that would become a badge of distinction. Sian grew Dizzy Ducks from one to eight sites, and fourteen years later successfully exited and sold her business to a larger nursery group. Since then, she’s worked as a business coach, set up her rental property company, and has recently launched Polka Dot Farm, a unique space for young children that focuses on outdoors, exploring nature and ensuring their indoor space is just as engaging as the outdoors. Listen to Learn: Why Vision must come first, and everything (and everyone) needs to follow and stay true to this.   Why you need to set-up for Exit at the START of your business journey, not at the end. How to get a business to survive on its own. How Sian has grown her team to 40 members, generated a Turnover of £2.2m, and has a long waiting list – in just 5 months! Why you shouldn’t have a day job in your business. Why you should never let people jeopardise your brand or identity. Alarms & Alerts and Scorecards don’t have to be numbers based. How to WOW your team & your customers for less than £10 to retain loyalty. Why policies, procedures and systems are there to help and learn from – and not there to blame.   Why you, as the Leader, must hold up your hands when you’ve got it wrong. Jean-Pierre De Villiers, High Performance Coach to CEOs, Entrepreneurs, Athletes & Leaders | Speaker | Author & Vegan Athlete
It’s been a while since we’ve done a Podcast, but I promise you this is worth the wait!  This week I’m joined by someone who helps, inspires, and stretches people to perform to be their very best: Jean-Pierre De Villiers, or JP, as he’s known. JP works with CEOs, Celebrities, Olympic Athletes and thousands of other high profile influential men and women, who demand the best from themselves, because they work in high-demand environments where their best is expected. Olympic medallists, business leaders, entrepreneurs, actors and award-winning film directors and producers all seek out JP's expertise and rely on him to help them perform at the highest level.  JP teaches leading-edge strategies to keep them ahead of the game (and sometimes in the game). He's the author of several books, is a professional martial artist, has completed multiple ultra-marathons and other endurance events and was voted as Health Coach of the Year. I first met JP at Daniel Priestley’s Key Person of Influence and have since been inspired by his talks as well as his personal journey over the last few years which I’m sure we’ll touch upon. Listen to Learn: Why opinions matter, but not all opinions are important. The importance of trusting yourself and to be guided by your intuition. JP’s 4 Pillars of Spiritual Fitness. Why Purpose-Led businesses are more successful than Vs Profit-Led.   How to re-engineer all your goals to get you moving towards your Vision and the person you want to be. The 3A’s to give you Clarity, Coaching and Commitment. It’s not WHAT happens, it’s HOW you react. Why your measure of success should be: How Happy Am I? How you need to create a culture of learning from mistakes in your business. Self-Leadership comes before any other kind of Leadership.
