Just because it’s a fad doesn’t mean we have to line up and follow the pack, you know that right? We are human beings with the power and ability to reason and question the things that go on around us. By “masking” the problem I am referring to putting a bandaid over a knife wound instead of “Fixing” the problem by going and getting the wound stitched so that it heals properly without further negative consequences (infection, etc.). When thinking about our health and daily body functionality are we putting on multiple bandaids (taking pain killers, calling in “sick” to work, etc.) everyday or are we seeking out solutions (making an appointment with a physiotherapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, dentist, doctor, naturopath, changing eating habits, tracking our food consumption, etc.) to fix the underlying problems? You know you. Where are you at? What can you do differently? Are you going to?

We all have those days! I had one just yesterday. All I did was walk 6500 steps but it sure felt good to get out of the house and do something active for 30 to 35 minutes. Just do something, going to bed knowing you did something is more positive reinforcement and going to bed realizing you did nothing.

Now, I have mentioned tracking or journalling your workouts and your routines in the past. However, another method to see where you are at, or rather to measure yourself is to add time to a particular exercise. This measures your muscle capacity and endurance. If you are great at pull-ups or think that push-ups are easy time yourself performing 25, 50, 100 reps and see how long it takes you to complete the full 100 or other number you choose. Then test yourself next week or next month and see how things change.

Stop following the fads guys! There is a lot of crazy info out there and most of it is unsustainable. I teach what I’ve been living for the past 8 years and the way my wife and I live to this day. This episode dials into a game changing strategy I use to avoid gaining weight - just a heads up, it’s nothing earth shattering and you’ll probably think it’s against conventional modern “wisdom” and you’d be right, it is!

Listen to your body. Take time to rest & recover. Make your exercise fun, you don’t have to hate it.

How did we get to the point of undressing ourselves to go out in public and dressing up when we get home?

We gain fat, lose strength, and our heart and lungs weaken via process: sedentary lifestyle and consuming more calories than we expend...likewise we improve strength, lose fat, grow our heart and lung capacity via process: eating many vegetables, fruits, proteins, fats and minimal simple carbohydrates (ex. Sugar, bread, juice, etc) and expending more calories than we consume in a day. Please do not fall for the stand on vibrators of the world and the easy fat loss pills or strap on electronic pulse pads that claim to “give you abs” -how are you given something you didn’t work for? Pills, Potions and Powders will never solve our poor choices and actions. Every one can lose and gain fat regardless of body type.

There are many people out there, yes men and women alike that insist on power lifting a dumbbell or barbell and then letting the weight slam to the floor. I say if it is too heavy for you to put it down nicely you need to lower the weight and focus more on technique and increase your overall strength before revisiting that weight level. Let us all lift with purpose - to improve our quality of life and to strengthen our bodies for life tasks and mishaps.

Not my best work...this episode is a commitment keeper - I promised myself I would podcast five days a week so I had to hit record whether I liked it or not. Today I share some firsthand side affects of over consumption of two food groups. Come have a listen!
