020- Secrets To Making Fast Decisions
SHOW DESCRIPTION
Making a decision can be a process and sometimes a painful one. For me, decision making can be excruciating and drawn out for hours. From groceries you need and shirts you want to buy all the way to should you do this or that; we have the secret to get you to a conclusion and fast. We make decisions all the time, some of them are typically easy like what should I wear this morning but some can leave us stuck, for example, should I go shopping. Analysis paralysis can hit hard especially when we aren’t skilled in decision making, In this episode, we will give you secrets to make fast decisions as well as tips on how to recognize it and why you might be struggling with decision making.
the first key is to recognize when you are stuck and then to recognize what is holding you back. Some of the things that might be contributing to the problem are:
- Emotion
- Over complicating
- You do not have the facts
- You go to your friends
- You don’t focus on the results
I struggle with emotion the most when I make decisions. I would focus on how I felt and would imagine all the scenarios including worst case. The main problem with having emotion involved in decision making is that it mucks your clarity up. Imagine you are driving on a nice sunny day, you can go the speed limit no problem but then fog sets in and you have to drive slower so you don’t crash. That fog is emotion, it slows down your ability to process.
When you struggle with decision making ask yourself yes or no questions. This will help you stay away from emotion because there is not a maybe, just two options either yes or no. do you need a new shirt? Yes, so go shopping.
Write on paper the facts. This will also help you stay away from adding emotion to the mix. There is now a better understanding of what the situation looks like and it will be easier to make a decision and follow it.
With personal development, these concepts need to be applied as well. Ask yourself, are you where you want to be in life, chances are you will say no and then go on to explain why. Rohit put it very nicely “We come with baggage because we’re not willing got let go of the past because of that we struggle to move forward in life” we need to take the emotion out of our decision making in order to succeed in life and in whatever we are doing.
