I found this podcast randomly and really enjoy it but what really made me commit is in the Above The Rim episode they float the conspiracy theory that I FIRMLY believe in which is that Jordan’s gambling got his dad murdered. No one ever talks about it so it’s nice to know someone else sees how plausible it is.

excellent pod about some legendary action movies, mostly from the 80’s and 90’s. joining the patreon nets you over 500 episodes to download. these guys are seriously funny, with deep film knowledge and incredible verbal interplay.

This is a great podcast primarily because the hosts are *legitimately* funny. Not “chuckle a few times every episode” funny or “funny for an actor” funny or “easy listening” funny. These guys are actually hilarious in a way that demonstrates their chops, experience, intelligence, and genuine love of cinema. They have no hesitation about mixing highbrow ideas with lowbrow riffs. So they crack me up several times per episode. I will just note that while Rodgers is a very funny and intellectually curious guy, I think he can be a tad domineering and dismissive of his other hosts. I get that he’s usually the host tasked with steering the ship, but a few too many times he’ll step on (or skip over) a hilariously dry Stanger observation just to insinuate that he had another date with a hot woman (or whatever). The dynamic can feel a bit unbalanced and at times genuinely harsh. That said: whatever, I take these men as they are; they are funnier than 99.99% of podcast hosts, so I’ll roll with a couple nitpicks as I listen to another episode.

They’re the funniest and the movies are the coolest. The hosts have incredible big brother/good buddy energy. It fuels a long hangout show that always feels fresh and fun. And their enthusiasm is infectious.

Three failed actors in their 40s attempt to recap 1970s, 80s, and 90s action movies. They are very sensitive to criticism and have no subject matter expertise but some episodes have funny moments.

These boys on the show have great chemistry and they are very funny. They do poke fun at silly/bad parts of the movies they review but they also show a lot of respect for the parts that are great. It’s a fun time, definitely take a listen. Note for the Action Boyz, please, bring this show back, it rocks, you rock, ok bye!!

Typical sad, old content from three old, sad comedians (?) actors (?) I don’t know what they are but cheugy. Granted, this was a forced listen in rotation on my touring bus for work. Our boomer stage manager’s hot pick. I guess if you’re a boomer manager, listening to Ben Rodgers tell stories about exploiting the girls he dates for money and housing this will be your jam.

It’s hard to explain this show to people but it’s my favorite thing I pay monthly for. Peak podcasting made by pros with an unreal amount of great stories. They lovingly critique these movies and give really solid context. If you like the free episodes you won’t regret the payment. I definitely recommend going Shadow Wolf tier for the monthly episode, 2+ hours at a minimum full of great show/book/podcast recommendations. Enjoy!

Really funny

Action Boyz is my go-to podcast when I am working out. The tone matches my ambivalence about masculinity perfectly: 100% enthusiasm for what white boys in middle school in the early 90s loved and deep discomfort with the power structures that centered those things as cool. The tension inspires me to bang out strict form muscle-ups well beyond what I could achieve unassisted. If you love comedy, fitness strategies, “jokes” about true psychos, professional wrestling, and The Work documentary, this is the pod for you. Thank you, Action Boyz. 5 stars out of 5.

Since I’m the Rodgers of my friend group, I think I can give a more meaningful review than all these other Stangers who just lie to you and call it comedy. If you’re a fan of Marvel movies and the new heights CGI has been able to elevate action movies to in the last 23 years, this is the podcast for you. Grounded and without distractions, this podcast gives a scene by scene breakdown of popular movies like Dragged Across Concrete from the perspective of a group of successful Hollywood actors who still are in touch with the common man. Just kidding, none of that’s true. But it was nuts in Dragged Across Concrete when they shot her hands off.

This podcast has it all: stories about dads watching movies, seeing your dad as a character in a movie, being a dad and showing your son the movie against your S.O.’s wishes, talking about movies where characters say “I’m your dad”, dead dads, alive but emotionally unavailable dads, text message exchange with dads, buying movies on iTunes for said alive dads, Dar! which is really close to spelling dad, and recurring bits that ultimately circle back to a story about a dad. I’m your dad? Maybe the three and half hours of podcast every Monday was our dad all along.

Kuffs saying “love and kisses on all your pretty pink parts” is actually a North by Northwest reference. He dictates it to his secretary when sending flowers to some flame of his and she says it’s inappropriate, just like in kuffs.

Hi I can’t submit this podcast to my podcast phone. I’ve tweeted at the hosts to put the podcast in my phone but they don’t answer back. I also submitted a question to the Action Boyz subreddit tagging their accounts. But still no response, please I need this in my podcast phone so I can get rid of the COVID in the middle school I clean.

It’s Great

Like many of you, I’m 40 and don’t have many friends. Making new friends is hard and who has the time? So I subscribe to Action Boys to hear three real male friends talk about the things real male friends discuss: Action movies, sports, Vaseline-filled gloves, etc. it helps pass the time while we all trudge through middle age, irrelevance and the inevitable void. I’m less lonely now. Thanks Action Boyz!

I grant you a beat by beat run down of a 30 year old B movie sounds bad on paper, but these guys spin it I gold with hilarious tangents, stories from their lives, creative original impressions, and their insider knowledge of movie making gives you great insights into these classic movies. Five stars.
