The increasing diversity in the workforce is an amazingly noteworthy aspect of the human condition. Today, we are joined by Luc Degagne, who provides us with the unique perspective of working in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) from a transgender point of view.
We discuss:
- The types of support and challenges trans people generally encounter in the workforce
- The predicament between him having the responsibility to tell people OR keeping his trans lifestyle private
- Discussing experiences where people “over-invited” or "over- accommodate" Luc on being trans (people act overly nice in a strange way where he didn’t want that type of attention in the first place), not because they legitimately felt the need to but rather felt that it would make them look good
- Advice from Luc on how to treat people from the LGBTQ community in the workforce
- How far we are from a world where trans people are just as easily accepted as heterosexuals
- Advice Luc has for LGBTQ+ students wanting to work in the STEM fields. Namely: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
