On today’s episode we are joined by Walt Brown, developer of the “7 Questions 7 Promises” framework, who has realized that what Millennials want in the workplace is really what everyone wants in the workplace - to feel like they belong to an organization and believe what they’re working on; to feel like they learn and thrive every day in their environment; and to feel like they’re having an impact among many other things. In this episode we discuss:
- Stereotypes about Millennials that caused Walt to create this system (“not knowing what they want; they overbook their time,” and so on)
- The 7 Questions and 7 Promises a company or organization must consistently uphold in order to have a strong culture and retain employees for the long-term
- The importance of employees being held accountable, measured, validated, coached to grow, and ultimately valued
- How organizational values need to be clearly set by the leader, and also be absolutely real and authentic
- How culture is comprised of values, systems, shared goals, and attitudes/beliefs/ behaviours, and how culture ultimately forms the social fabric of an organization
- How to measure culture: through engagement and empowerment
- How the phenomenon of “ghosting” in the personal dating world has transcended into the professional world. Do what you say! If you make a commitment, follow through on it, or communicate that you can’t follow through on it
