The online publication has disowned the card.

This post shared on X (formerly Twitter) with a digital card purportedly from Kenyans.co.ke with a news alert on Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment is FAKE.

“Deputy President Rigathi to be impeached over son’s Shs.4 billion mosquito nets deal,” reads the card dated 9 July 2024.

The card has the publisher’s branding, an image of the DP and text reading: “Impeachment proceedings are based on Article 150 of the Constitution of Kenya, aimed at upholding integrity in public office.”To confirm the card is authenticity, Ghetto Radio checked Kenyans.co.ke’s official  X account and Facebook page, where they publish such graphics, but the one in question was non-existent.

The publication through a post on X flagged the card and urged readers to disregard it.

“This post did not emanate from our media house. We flag it as FAKE. For official communication from http://Kenyans.co.ke, always visit the official website and verified social media page,” the publication stated.

In May 2023, the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) was accused of violating procurement rules while allocating aKSh3.7 billion tender for the supply of treated mosquito nets that was to be financed by Global Fund.

However, following the accusations, the Global Fund cancelled the tender. Several senior government officials were reportedly suspended in relation to the scandal.

A keyword search did not yield credible results on the alleged upcoming impeachment of the DP.
