FALSE: This image doesn’t show a road damaged by earthquake in Rongai, Kajiado County

The photo is of California’s State Route 178 after an earthquake struck the area on 5 July 2019.

This image  shared on X (formerly Twitter) claiming to show a damaged road in Rongai, Kajiado County after a tremor was reported in sections of Nairobi is FALSE.

On 16 July 2024, a section of Kenyans in Nairobi and its environs reported experiencing a tremor that lasted for about 30 seconds.

“The #Earthquake caused damage on road in Rongai,” reads the X post.


To confirm the photo’s credibility, Ghetto Radio performed a Google Reverse image search and established that the picture is from California, United States of America.

The  United States Geological Survey published the image in July 2019 and reported that it was a section of California’s State Route 178, which crumbled after an earthquake struck the area.

The image was also published here and here.

A Google search for an earthquake damaging a road in Rongai did not yield credible results. 

Ghetto Radio investigated an image shared on X claiming to show a damaged road in Rongai, Kajiado County after a tremor was reported in sections of Nairobi and found it to be FALSE.
