How To Human
I will come back to review particular episodes. I’m so glad I discovered this podcast. Since being diagnosed with Covid-19 and flu strain B a week and a half ago I have been on a journey. Intellectually I have known many things that are important. I have struggled most of my life since my father died when I had just turned 8. I am 66 years old. For the first time since I was a child I am happy and at peace. You could have preached to me all day but none of it would have helped my anxiety, depression and low self-esteem until God’s timing was right. Later. Podcasts like Sam’s are part of my new maintenance and tune-up program.

Amazing
Authentic, human and real! Taught me that opportunities are never lost, they reappear, we don't have to hide our mistakes or feel ashamed, help will ways show up! Loved Ann Lamott, John Kaag, Nicole LaPera and Paul William's episode. Makes everything seem attainable and possible. Unstaged, refreshing, honest and entertaining! Give me many things to reflect upon! Love to the openess to sharing the recovery journey. Than you Tim Ferris for recommending this podcast!

Only a beginning
I just barely finished Sam’s interview with Paul Williams and I ran to this site to write a review. You two made me feel so alive and part of you, not only because I have what you have, but because you reminded me that I have value, as a person and as a creator. Paul said, “You (Sam) have the gift of making me catch myself drifting into performance mode, which is unconscious…”. Yes. I have been writing a book and am every day second guessing my ability to really add anything to anyone’s experience. But the process is the gift. This interview offered so much in the way of inspiration and reminded me of the importance of listening, and noticing all the little parts of being human. I ran to my journal to get down what I have been thinking about and wondering if I am foolish to think it matters. “The gift is in the moment and don’t waste time judging yourself.” —Paul Williams.

Sam is a ROCKSTAR
Sam is real and raw while somehow being funny in a way that helps bring light to serious topics! He is unapologetically himself, never trying to gloss over his lived experience, abilities OR inabilities! He is a real breath of fresh air. With so many podcasts to choose from… I choose this one! ROCK ON SAM!

Grateful for Sam Lamott
This review is WAY past due. If you only listen to one podcast, listen to How to Human! I’m grateful for Sam’s podcast. He’s one of the few people who speaks from the heart about life. He emanates transparency, inclusivity, curiosity, and humor. He always brings laughter to me…and I struggle to laugh because I’m so serious (and a therapist which doesn’t help). Laughter, tears, insight, hope and knowledge. Sam is a story teller and a gift to the world. When I listen to his podcast, I feel like I’m listening to someone in the genre of Ira Glass from This American Life. His words convey deep widsom. I’m waiting for him to publish a book. I’ll pre-order is for sure! My hope is to see him record an episode in person. I wait with anticipation for each episode!

Grateful
I found Sam’s voice soothing, his questions challenged me, and the conversations pulled me in. I found shared common ground with each guest, but each expressed in different and unique circumstances than my own. I became a Patreon.

Be careful listening in public…
I hate podcasts! Honestly, I typically find them annoying or unoriginal and a massive waste of time… How to Human Is the farthest exception!!! So many of these episodes have spoken so deeply to my heart that I have cried in public on more than one occasion, I’ve had to stop what I’m doing pause the podcast and just let my brain sit with and process what I’m hearing. I think the sign of a great podcast is one that will keep you thinking about it for hours or weekss after you finish it - and nearly every episode of How to Human has done exactly that! I could never recommend this podcast highly enough… I think it might be too dramatic to say that it’ll change your life, but in a lot of way, it’s changed mine! Thank you Sam! 🤍

The Best of Personal Development
Sam’s podcast highlights the best aspects of human and personal development. In Sam, I hear a kindred spirit who is deeply committed to being the kindest, most compassionate, and self-actualized version of himself. What I most appreciate about this podcast is that we are on the journey with Sam; he is not the sage on the stage. He is candid and vulnerable. He does the work. He researches and immerses himself into his guests’ world. I host a podcast myself and I look up at Sam as world-class. Lots of love for you Sam. Keep going ❤️

Love this show! Have been listening for several years now, but particularly like the turn the show has taken recently towards interviewing “ordinary” people who make a real difference. Great to hear about these folks amidst so much strife in the world. Thanks, Sam & Co., and keep up the great work!!

Love How to Human
I came across Sams podcast after hearing his Mom mention it. First listen I was hooked. Every episode I have learned something. I have learned about myself too. I have laughed and cried and was terribly disturbed at times. Each episode is so different. I am always left wanting to hear what’s next. Who will Sam interview and what I will discover about them or myself. Sam is a great interviewer. He leaves space , never talks over the other person. He doesn’t make it about him but is always honest and vulnerable which is delightful. I’m a child who grew up with addicts all around me. There is so much healing and love and insight I have personally experienced from listening to Sams interviews. Thanks Sam I’m 54 but love learning. You have added to my life. Keep going! I look forward to more.

Just the best
Sam Lamott enters our humanity and makes us feel we’re not too weird, different, or messy to be loved. Great guests and compelling discussions about the ups and downs of being human. There’s a Patreon option (in any amount) with lovely perks.

A blessing
This is a podcast that I can sit and savor or that helps me do my daily stretches and set me up for meditation. It is the instruction manual that I have been waiting for! Reading directions has not been my strength - listening is so much easier- for me.

Amazing show
The wonder of How To Human is Sam Lamott. The wonder of Sam Lamott is how he shares his vulnerability in a way that inspires the listener to do the same. Challenging, insightful and encouraging, Sam connects with each guest and story to show our individual paths may be different, but our journeys have a collective oneness.

Life Giving - Great for Sharing
I can’t say how much this podcast means to me. Some of the guests are authors/artists I already knew, and others were a sweet introduction. Though I am a bookworm, most of my family members are not, they’d rather digest info by hearing or watching. This podcast puts awesome life affirming words into household. Thank you.

Feeds the soul
Love listening to this podcast while I work. This podcast was talked about on the Tim Ferriss Podcast and I’m so glad to be a subscriber. It has all the gushy and real things that makes me reflect on life’s magic. What a terrific body of work to listen to here. Only just the beginning!

kindred, comforting, unapologetic, messy magic
i found sam’s podcast about 9 months ago. i binge-listened to the episodes and was so comforted to find such a kindred, generous, genuine soul. since then, this podcast has remained a favorite. this podcast is special because sam is special. he brings an earnest light to conversations, showing up as a humble human/learner along for the ride. he unapologetically offers us his whole self, openly sharing his mess and his pursuit of growth in a relatable way. he has a stellar lineup of guests, no doubt. but after listening to a few podcasts with some of the same guests, i can tell you that something about sam is magic; he elicits honesty, insight, and wisdom in a way that is truly rare. if you need a friend, sam is a good one and listening to this podcast will be life-giving for you. it has been for me.

Great listening
Makes my days alone working from so much more bearable. I always feel like I don’t fit in and that I’m too deep to understand but this podcast and the people on it are amazing souls with relatable stories and uplifting positiveness that motivate the message to keep being true to your imperfect but beautiful self and to keep going on your path through truth and kindness and forgiveness.

How to Human

Once I felt alone, but now I have Sam Lamott
If you are looking for thoughtful conversation about coping with life - as Sam says, being human - you’ve found the right podcast. The interviews will encourage you, and also lead you to other people who will keep you going. I recommend this podcast highly! Sam does a great job of selecting meaningful people to interview as well as interviewing them thoughtfully and with lovingkindness. As a person with a depression problem, I have often felt extremely alone with my issue - except of course talking about it with my therapist. But listening to Sam and to his guests, I realize that there are many of us out there with mental health issues, many of us figuring out how to cope with these issues on a daily - and likely hourly - basis. Depression likes to make us feel like we are alone so that it can thrive within us. Sam’s podcast makes me realize that I am not alone, making it that much harder for my depression to overtake me. Thank you, Sam, so very much!

Like no other!
I love this podcast! Sam is such an intuitive interviewer, and he is so open and honest about his own life which is refreshing and encouraging. I listen to learn and be inspired. It is also my favorite podcast if I can’t sleep. Often times, I’m able to fall asleep, but if not, I am relaxed and feel my time is well spent. I listen to many of the episodes numerous times and get something new each time. Thank you, Sam, for your inspiring, uplifting, heartfelt podcast.

Refreshing
Real , unpretentious, and honest. This show is everything we are missing from the other overly structured and commercial sounding pods. Sam gives us a live performance every time. He is so brave. And so are his guest. I take something away every show. No auto tune needed for this show. It’s authentically talented.
