On today’s episode, we’re talking about a subject that is very near and dear to my heart, especially because this is the season of life I’m walking in now and I know it’s also the space many of our listeners are in right now too.   My guests today are Kim & Mike Barnes.  They have each spent more than 30 years on TV here in my hometown of Austin, Texas. Kim was a news anchor/reporter and Mike was a sportscaster.  They have two kids who are both recent college graduates.  They’re empty nesters and they have parents in their 80s just like me.  Now, these award-winning journalists are using their professional and personal experiences to support adult children caring for their aging parents. Kim & Mike launched Parenting Aging Parents in 2021 to help others trying to navigate this difficult transition of caring for their aging parents.  Parenting Aging Parents provide content, connection, and community so caregivers don’t feel so alone and they have the information they need to navigate this challenging time.  They have a website with dozens of expert interviews and they also lead a private Facebook group with almost 7,500 members.  They like to say, “We’re all in this together!”   I cannot wait for you to hear this episode! In my conversation today, Emily’s son Owen or as we like to call him, “Mighty O” is truly a miracle child. You will be in absolute awe of the remarkable courage, dedication, perseverance, and faith that the Cobb family exhibits every single day.   Owen required fetal surgery at 25 weeks, has been diagnosed with 10 different types of medical conditions, has undergone countless MRIs, scans, bloodwork, x-rays, etc., and he will for the rest of his life. Owen often asks Emily when he will grow out of Spina Bifida. He is a happy, satiated child, despite his physical differences. Owen is now 7 ½ years old, he loves unconditionally, has a glowing smile, and a wonderful personality.    The journey the Cobb family has been on since before Owen was born will inspire you beyond words, bring you to tears, and encourage you like never before to never give up and never take anything for granted.  Emily and her husband, Justin are two of the most courageous, selfless, loving parents you will ever meet.     Today’s episode reminds me so much of Jesus’ love for us no matter what and that He will equip us with the strength we need to endure all that comes our way.
