Yes!! It’s a yes!
I have goose bumps on my goosebumps. I love the Thriller album. I just listened to the Michael Jackson episode as my introduction to your podcast and it hits. I love it! If you’re a music lover, this pod is for you!

Please stop the noise
Generally enjoyable, but Peter going “Uh” and other grunts he makes while the music is playing is just awful and distracting. Please give it a rest.

Great jazz nerding
Cool intelligent analysis / discussion - love it.

Love it!
I love this podcast and I’m so glad I discovered it recently. Peter and Adam share their enthusiasm for the music with you and bring their extensive knowledge of music theory and musicianship to the conversation without analyzing the music to death and sucking the joy out of it. Highly recommended!

Prodigious Podcast
I’m a music lover, not a musician, so a lot of what Adam and Peter discuss goes over my head. However, I always learn something from these episodes, and it has led me to dive deeper into musicians’ catalogs. I particularly enjoy how open they are to genres (There’s that dirty word), cross genres, genre blurring, and genres that don’t exist—if any exist. I’d like to see them do a Louis Armstrong episode, not the Hot 5s and Hot 7s and not his super poppy period (Though I’m open to an explanation for why I should listen to Hello Dolly) but something in between those periods. Thanks Adam and Peter for all you do.

Questionable music choices
This podcast used to be mostly about jazz. It won’t be long until most of the albums covered are soul, funk, pop or hip hop. Apparently they’ve got jazz covered: it’s Kind of Blue and a few other things. Beyond that, you won’t hear it.
Also, please just stop with the misplaced grunts during listens. It’s gross.

Episode #138
I’m not musically trained and grew up on the rural west listening to folk songs and the scores of the great musicals. I never got into rock ‘n’ roll. But in college in the mid 60s, I was introduced to jazz and though I haven’t always had a great music system, I’ve always listened to jazz when I could find it. I just listened to episode #138 where, toward the end there’s discussion of the Methodist hymnal and the actual musical sophistication of that music. I did grow up, listening to hymns, and a question of mine is answered - why did I go from folk songs and musicals to jazz? The answer is probably because I knew my hymns. hymns folk, songs and musicals.

Fun loving podcast for people who love music
Thanks for creating and continuing such an amazing and entertaining podcast. Some of the music language goes over my head, but the energy and fun that you guys bring to discovering music is contagious. I’ve been taking deeper dives into your reviews and enjoying the journey. Please keep these podcasts coming!

What a treat
I recently stumbled across this podcast while looking for information about Prince. Discovered pods on many of my favorites like steely Dan, tower of power, Stevie etc. I have learned so much in every episode I’ve listened to. Thank you so much!

Rick Beato + You’ll Hear It
I put this podcast right next to Rick Beato’s YouTube channel. Awesome production and great insights into the music. I’ve discovered countless new pieces of music through these two channels.

Doing the Lord’s Work
This podcast is a godsend not only for aspiring jazz musicians, but for anyone who loves passionate conversations about music that sweats (and cherishes) the details. Peter and Adam are top picks for my fantasy album listening party. Would love to hear their perspectives on more albums on the rock end of the spectrum (I think their takes would be fascinating), but I have no complaints or quibble bits. Thanks for all you do, guys.

Best podcast of all time
If you aren’t looking forward to this every Monday, you might be a square. The instructional content on their website is also superb (shout out to Chris Parks in particular). Thank you!

Thank You
So grateful to have found these musical nerds a few weeks ago. At the height (or depth) of my doomscrolling and depression, these guys pulled me toward the warmth, the light, and the pure joy that is music. Thank you.

Can’t wait
Even if things are bad I look forward to this show that’s shows humanity behind the album and how it is being played

Great Listening!
I am so grateful that this podcast exists. Peter and Adam are so engaging and thoughtful it makes every show a pleasure. Plus they know their music. I’m late to the party and so excited to binge all this great content.

Of course this is great
Things I am grateful for today: Peter and Adam. I have never met or interacted with them in any capacity. However, I hold them close to my heart. Thank you

Gentleman & Ladies Agreement - GALA
This podcast is a joy to listen to. It is like hanging with two great friends listening to incredible music and laughing and getting a deep appreciation of some of the best albums ever recorded. Keep up the good work.

The best.
The best ongoing podcast series. Not the best music podcast. Not the best jazz podcast. The best podcast.

Correction (and thanks)
Great podcast, and I LOVE the between songs commentary. Coupla things though - Re: Sinatra episode - it’s Fly Me To The Moon that was originally in 3, not Come Fly With Me. Also, maybe less talk DURING the music, or at least just one person at a time. Sorry to nitpick!

Incredible
I know basically nothing about music and this is one of my absolute favorite podcasts of all time, hands down. The hosts LOVE the music they are talking about and it’s infectious. Thank you thank you thank you!

Thrilled to have found it
Heard an ad for this show on Song Exploder, and I’m so glad I came over for a full listen. I end each episode with a brand new appreciation for albums I’ve long loved and ones that are new to me. I love to hear Adam and Peter in a frenzy about just how good music can be (looking especially at you, every Stevie Wonder episode). I’m not a music-theory nerd but I imagine this is even more rewarding for people who are (though it offers plenty for anyone who loves music).

Unleash the music theory!!
As a lover of music theory, every time Peter walks back from a dorky theory deep dive, it makes me sad. That’s all.
Otherwise phenomenal way to catch up on the cultural history of modern American music.

Can we get back to Jazz soon?
If I was interested in pop or hip hop I’d be listening to another podcast!
Update after ‘Bad’ episode : Why, why, why waste a whole episode on a third-rate album? Are you really running out of good jazz albums to talk about?
jalmberg
Very disappointed
Loved the old format and looked forward to every episode. Unfortunately, new episodes are few and far between and are no longer about jazz education and appreciation but are instead about reminiscing about old pop albums. Maybe this format gets more listeners, but I’m no longer invested. 🙁

Top notch!
GALA: A unique balance of knowledge, whit, humor, and a repartee that rivals the interplay of the best jazz duos.

Best music podcast!
I stumbled upon this podcast accidentally while looking for jazz piano tutorials. It has become a weekly ritual listening to Adam and Peter discuss amazing music, some of which I grew up with, but some they’ve introduced me to. This podcast has brought a tremendous amount of joy into my life. In addition to being warm and funny and authentic, Adam and Peter are incredible musicians and the intro and outro musical arrangements are fantastic. I’m also an open studio member so I will give that a plug here as well. As a lifetime classically trained pianist I’d long given up transitioning to jazz but I’m giving it one more shot. Thanks so much for all the work that goes into this show. It is truly special.

Didn’t know what I was missing!
GALA: I have been listening to You’ll Hear It for several months now and have developed a new appreciation and excitement for the artists and the music I’ve listened to for years. I used to think of Joni Mitchell as a folk artist who dabbled in jazz, but after listening to your discussion on her “Blue” album, it was like getting a brand new set of ears hearing her incredible melodies and piano voicing and arrangements. Thank you guys so much for doing this podcast!

Great learning tool
Great podcast. I actually subscribe to Open Studio. 3 stars because of the completely unnecessary cussing. This would be a great podcast I could share with my children so that they could learn more about
music in the car, but random f bombs, often pervasive, among others, make that a no go, and don’t in anyway enhance the points being made.

Game-changer, no matter your instrument #GALA
Seven stars. I can’t say enough about You’ll Hear It. I came across Peter Martin at the Vanguard a few years ago (bringing down the house with Christian McBride and Inside Straight) and a few Google searches later — boom! — discovered this fine, fine podcast.
Both Peter and Adam have an uncanny ability to know what musicians want and need to hear, and more importantly, how to drop deep knowledge in a way that’s clear, eminently credible, and enjoyably funny (hooray for Dad jokes!).
Thanks so much, guys. You’re putting something great and valuable into the universe.
The Open Studio lessons are fab, too (shout out to Sean Jones!). Next-level stuff.
Keep at it.
PS I love the live playing with the guys at the end of each session and the broader aperture you’re taking across genres.

Thank you!!!
You both have enriched my musical life so much by turning me on to things I may have overlooked over the years and reminding me of the amazing records I wore out years ago. I love experiencing for the first time and re-experiencing music with you both!!
I can’t thank you enough.

The Best
Very few people can interrupt Miles Davis to talk about Miles Davis that you wouldn’t make you want to shut them up. These guys can do it.

A true delight of a show. Even though I can’t help but I roll my eyes whenever these two dweebs talk about certain piano sounds (I kid, I kid). A wonderful resource for reflecting on and exploring great music. Keep up the great work ###gala

My new favorite music pod
I absolutely love this show. Peter and Adam are total musicians and know their stuff. They take me deep(er) into music I already know well and now, through their ears, I get to love it more. One of the things that has blown me away is both their visceral reactions to the music and then the “favorite moments” which have often been the moments of the music that have been most memorable to me but I did not have words for it. I do play music so love your technical and geeky stuff. Keep it going. Thank you guys!!!

Great music podcast for musicians and non- musicians
Love both the classic album reviews and the insight on how to be a better player and musician!

Love this show.
Learn so much but have fun doing it.

Better then KOB
Peter. The question is, “Is it better than KOB”. Yes or no. If it’s equal, then the answer is “No”.
Snob meter. Sort of a “pot calling the kettle black” topic.

Infectious enthusiasm
I’m just starting out with listening to and playing a little jazz piano, and this podcast is perfect. Adam and Peter evince so much love for this music, how could you not feel the same?

Their chemistry and enthusiasm for the music is really infectious. I always go away inspired to listen to music that wasn’t on my radar or to get reacquainted with old favorites. Always time well spent.

Gala! I learn something about the music I love every time I listen to you guys, and I love working in the new lessons to my performances. Like being back in college with my friends but I remember the conversations this time!

Finally doing it
These guys are great, I play piano and Bass semi professionally and these guys have taught me an insane amount over the past 7ish years! Great to get such an insight on classic albums, playing with the greats, playing the great venues, from the greats. Love the show.

I Hear It!
The more I listen, the more I hear it!! I love this podcast because I love music and I love being nerdy about it. This show has broadened my love and understanding specifically of jazz and its history. Consequently, it's gotten me to actually leave my apartment and check out live jazz in my city! Shout out Bop Stop in Cleveland, OH! Thank you guys! #gala

Another 7 star GALA review
Seven stars out of four. For those of us mathematically challenged musicians, just know that means greater than you’d hope for with 100% being the best you can hope for.

Excellence!
My thanks to Peter and Adam for helping me understand my favorite music better and introducing me to more great music! in addition to enjoying your enthusiastic and skillful explanations, I so enjoy when y’all perform covers at the end of the show!

New season focusing on albums is amazing
I couldn’t be more happy to hear albums covered the way they are on this podcast. It’s something I’ve searched for quite some time. To also hear not pure jazz albums just made my day. All music is connected, and I appreciate the exploration of that .
