今回は、結婚、特に選択的夫婦別姓について。We’ll be talking about Marriage today, especially focusing on how some laws are very different in Japan regarding marriage.

６月２３日、日本では再び別姓婚が最高裁で認められず、現状が合憲とみなされました。私たちは、選択的夫婦別姓には賛成していて、心底実現することを願っていたのでとても残念でした。

Here in Japan, when we get married one of us has to change our surname to the others, and usually 99percent would be the women changing to the men’s name. It’s not allowed by law to have different surnames and Japan has even had the UN asking to change the law but still, once again it got denied. Personally we’ve been waiting and waiting for this to change so we can choose whether to keep our surnames or not, so it was super disappointing.
