West Side Story is a classic musical that brought the medium to the mainstream.  But, even on its original run it was littered with controversy on how it handled its representation and the offensiveness of some songs.  This week we are joined by Rojelio Ovalle (Former content producer of the Oscar-nominated film "Breakthrough"and Emmy winning shows such as Innovation Nation and Lucky Dog) to discuss what does and does not hold up in the classic tale.  What we want from the newest adaptation, and how it is still relevant to modern audiences.

This week we dive into some unique Disney history with The Three Caballeros.  An effort to create animated movie to assist with foreign relationships, which is filled with some good and some bad interpretations.  We talk with Matt Dorado and Mak Manson (creators of The Cosmic Game a new interactive audio drama) to discuss what works in this package movie, what doesn't and the impact its had on animation.  

This week we are joined by Mary Upchurch (Wings With Friends Podcast, Comedian) to discuss Kindergarten Cop.  With a recent screening cancelled due to the current climate we look back to see if it was worth not having the screening, what has aged well in the movie and what hasn't and if you could still make a movie like this today.

We are joined by Sarah Albritton (Sleeping with Sarah Podcast) to talk about Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.  The movies treatment of disabilities, and  how some of the jokes would hold up in 2021.  

We are joined this week by Alex Seligsohn (Comedian, writer at Queercoded.com) to talk about Sex and the City 2, how the movie doesn't reach any of the heights of the franchise, why you can't or shouldn't do a lot of it in 2021, and how to avoid these issues in the upcoming new series. 

Marian Yesufu (Comedian) joins us this week for The Craft!  A movie that takes its spells and magic from another culture, without addressing any of those implications, makes light of some mental health issues, and has some mixed messaging.  The movie is still considered a cult classic by many and important to the horror and teen genre for breaking down barriers and changing up tropes.  But does the movie hold up today?  Can you still do that?

Michele Baci (Therapy Roulette Podcast) joins us for Legally Blonde!  A comedy that was very important to woman and comedies, and led a huge box office in 2001.  But in 2020 we go back and look at some of the problematic issues in the movie, discuss whether it did enough for some of the topics and themes it covers and our hopes for what the third movie might be like.

Shaun Rosado joins us this week to look back on Sixteen Candles, a movie that changed how we viewed teen, high school comedies and furthered the genre ahead leading to things like Booksmart and even Spider-Man Homecoming.  However, our views on the movie have changed as we notice that a movie celebrated for telling "normal" teen stories, treats any ethnic character like a stereotypical cartoon, normalizes date rape and positions it as a way for girls to realize how good a boy is. 

David Crownson (Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer) joins us to discuss Good Will Hunting, the hit movie of the 90s that brought Boston as a set piece and genre to the forefront of filmmaking, but now we wonder if the attitude of the police works in 2021, if the language they use for woman and minorities still has a place in "charming" movies, and a predatory teacher who seemingly is chasing down every student he has.  Can you still do this movie in 2021?

Holly Anabel Brown (LA Based Stand Up Comedian, Well Actually Podcast) joins Blake and Anastasia as they travel back to somewhat real and somewhat fictional Chicago IL in the late 90s to see if Never Been Kissed still holds up or has become something you could no longer accomplish.  Through the news ignoring a story of a teacher being into the student.  Two characters also prowling for underage high school students, and the ever changing concept of being cool, its hard to say.... But one thing is for sure, the movie does reward everyones bad behavior.
