I just saw that this is the final episode and am so heartbroken. Tawny and Andrew have been coming together through my speakers since covid. Man, they got me through some really hard days and I’m going to miss them so much. I guess I should’ve left a review earlier 😆 Anyway, should’ve seen this coming with Tawny’s acting career really hitting new heights and all the guests coming in instead. I must be the dumbest person out there. I am a long time member of the Zeitgang. I have heard Andrew on The Daily Zeitgeist so many times and Tawny on other podcasts. So I finally decided to jump into Yo, is this racist, and wouldn’t you know I end up listening to the final episode of first. I guess I can work through the back catalogue but I do feel like a fool. 5 Stars.

This podcast is a lot of fun to “hate listen” and yell at. They actually tell people things like don’t speak a foreign language with a foreigner. It’s so bad it’s almost good! Almost.

Have listened to the hosts in several other podcasts as guests, but first episode I finally listened to learned Tawny went to Round Up in Dallas and I’m so in love with everything!

Thank you!!! This show is helping me and gadzillions of others more than you’ll ever know. I’ve been following Andrew for ages, but dang it, the conversations with Tawny take the analysis to a whole new level. Keep up the awesome work, and f the trolls cause they’re just jealous.

Ok. I really enjoyed this show a lot, but as someone who did a PhD and postdoc in biology, I’m just throwing my hands up at this point — I finally turned it off mid-episode today because Andrew will NOT stop saying that people can easily sequence their DNA at home. The most recent episode even included equally uninformed thoughts on the subject from a listener. When Andrew brought it up in a previous episode, I brushed it off as just a joke, but it’s veering into misinformation at this point, at a time when science is under attack. PCR ≠ sequencing Places like 23 and me (and I agree it was never a good idea to send your DNA to them) used PCR to amplify different fragments of DNA, and then used microarrays (chips with bits of DNA that the amplified DNA might bind to) for genotyping — this tells you what gene variants you may have and is not DNA sequencing. I think they later also offered exome sequencing, which IS actual DNA sequencing, but just the bits that code for proteins (~1% of the genome). This process is not the same as PCR. Whole genome sequencing is done by some companies but is a lot more expensive because it’s a lot more involved, usually requiring extensive computation in order to piece all the sequenced bits back together. All of this would be very difficult and expensive to do at home! Covid PCR tests are only amplifying one little piece of viral RNA and are not comparable to sequencing your genome

Let’s me feel sane in this insane world when obviously racist things are taking place. Update-2023 some good conversations and news about racist stuff. Responding to listener’s calls about incidents that might be racist and maybe even what to do in the moment. Enjoyed some of the snitching on HR trainings and crazy internal memos. Have you all thought about maybe putting up some YouTube vids of the remote sessions just to get more viewers, or is that too much trouble?

I’ve listened to this show for 8 years and am loving it lately more than ever! Tawny and Andrew are delightful to listen to. I especially appreciated the discussion of the Angel Reese reactions in the latest ep.

I would suggest listening to something more constructive like Info Wars.

I’m an old-timer who read the entire Tumblr page, up to shortly after the podcast began. I’ve always enjoyed Andrew Ti’s perspectives, and even more Andrew Ti’s and Tawny Newsome’s together. The anthropology is terrific and I love learning from the experiences I haven’t had. But what I value the most, I think, is how much the folks all *like* each other. On this podcast and on Yo Can We Live, it’s privilege to be included a little in those friendships.

I always enjoy the show, but I'm especially here for episodes that include Traci! I also have secret dreams of befriending (alternately becoming nemeses with) Andrew and Tawny (and obviously Traci!)

So every one star review on this show is the same thing: people who got angry for being outed by racist practices on this show. It’s a great, funny show and if you feel singled out, maybe reconsider the specific behavior they pointed out. If the show makes you furious to your core, maybe ask yourself why. Also: yo, you might be a racist.

Is what Andrew and Tawny do on the weekly while serving up informative and thought provoking stories on modern-day racism. A gem of a podcast, 5 stars.

Episode 251 of Who Are These Podcasts did a great review of this pathetic show and skewered this show pretty good. Very satisfying to hear these angry, unappreciative losers called out. Horrible broadcasters, terrible communicators. This stupid show is racist. The hosts are morons.

Kinda hard to take the 1 star reviews seriously when the criticism amounts to “what racism, signed Karen” and “I don’t get this show. Also I have zero sense of humor and/or am white”.

They talk about racism but manage to make it…fun? That feels weird to say, but it’s true. This is such a great show. Everyone should listen.

Sorry, reviews weren’t allowed on “Yo Can We Live!?” (Subs available through suboptimalpods.com) and I had to get this off my chest. I can’t believe Disney was selling shirts with Dale dabbing. When I went to Disneyworld, I did a meet and greet with Launchpad McQuack, we waited in line for like 20 minutes. The only thing I wanted from this trip was to get a picture with myself and one of the characters dabbing, and Launchpad is one of my favs so obviously this was my moment. First strike: it wasn’t even him! Just some guy in a suit who refused to speak to me. When I posed for the picture, he gave me a “no” signal with his hands and made us do another pose for the pic. I felt violated. Afterwards my husband informed me that they probably can’t do it because they think it’s a gang symbol. I think that’s probably racist, so that’s how this review is relevant. TLDR: Launchpad McQuack is a racist narc.

Do I feel the white guilt. Sure, I do think it’s a good thing. A laugh is also in the cards

Andrew is by far the worst part of this show. Tawny, the guests, the producers, the over thinking voicemails are all the best thank you! Please get rid of Andrew asap

Long time listener, first time reviewer. I love this podcast. I learn a lot, mostly about how not to be a stupid white person BUT ALSO Tawny has lead me to some of my top podcasts. Add to cart is one of my favorite pods those ladies are so funny and balance each other out so well and the stacks is my absolute favorite podcast to listen to (even joined the patreon because I’m such a big fan of Traci). So thanks for all of the labor you do of answering the queries of the “well meaning” and often harmful actions of white people and for guiding some of us to amazing pods that we love like this one 🤘🏻

Biased? Probably but these comedians know what’s good and I appreciate comedians who are introspection. I only just somehow looked at their reviews to see so many 1 stars and think those are likely the folks who were court ordered to listened. Sad. But Suboptimal pods? Grand.

Privileged idiots decide what is racist. Targets include light skinned Asians, light skinned black people, and of course light skinned people in general. Just a couple silly youngsters who think that being a victim is the coolest thing in the world. If you enjoy this empty, vapid tat you are the worst. The worst.

I gave this podcast about a dozen listens, and just can't get past the following (much of which was said in others' reviews): 1. Virtually everything is racist to the hosts. They'd probably say that my eating Cherrios with white (fat free) milk is racist (and "fat-ist"). I do like chocolate milk, buttermilk (okay, not buttermilk), and maybe other flavors/colors of milk too, but not with Cherrios. 2. There is no contrarian on the show to balance out their frequent overboard comments and conclusions. Tawny poses an occassional "yeah but...", but doesn't stand behind her challenge at all. As a result, it turns the show into a boring caricature of real racism discussion. I can get that on the evening news and social media. I want a meaningful, balanced, and effective conversation. They can do that and stilll be funny. Actually, if they DID bring on a contrarian, they'd likely make a mockery of that person like a sideshow lacky, and REALLY ruin what hoped would be a funny yet (somewhat) balanced show. 3. Ironically, I do love the voicemails, as they pose legitimate questions. I normally just evaluate and answer (in my head) their questions for myself. Unfortunately, the calls are not enough to keep me tuned in. Sadly, I'll unsubscribe.I was hoping to laugh and learn. While I do laugh at the humor once in a while, I'm afraid my learning has been set back 20 years.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for several years now and it’s still as good as ever. Do I have parasocial relationships with the hosts? I don’t wanna talk about it (yes).

Love hearing the hosts gab and discuss their views on different political/racial topics.

Tawny and Andrew (and guests/producers) manage to balance some super heavy stuff with exasperated gallows humor. The Hollywood insider perspective is very illuminating regarding why stuff doesn’t change and how the faux woke folk perpetuate racism/sexism/cop and gun glorification.

This pod gets the job done, in every way I said before, but not exactly in the way I said before. Since going independent, having less guest, and getting to do their own thing more and more with each passing week, it’s become clearer to me who this is for. This pod is first and foremost for white liberals. It’s to help them, to appease them, and to get them to do the same for other whites and pull them into being the type that listens to things like this. It’s all the way to the left, like in a sometimes ridiculous way… just like the only other group of people I know that go this far to the left: white liberals. Don’t believe me? Check they’re callers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that they’re not taking everyone else’s calls, it’s that the rest of us aren’t calling as much because this isn’t as often the place nor the context for us to talk about our race questions. The white liberal callers are the lifeblood of this pod because they’re asking the title way more than the average person. The overall creation of this started for whites (the ones that asked Andrew race questions irl and which lead to this starting on the blogs) and it’s continuing to go that way. Not that this is a bad thing, if you guys won’t teach them right from wrong who will? And again they’re doing a great job at it, but it’s something I’ve noticed. If you’re not a white liberal or trying to get there you are still in luck! You will still have fun listening, you will still gonna find this funny, you will still learn a few things along the way. But you’re not the ‘targeted demographic’. You’re gonna have some ‘um… ok’ and some ‘well actually’ and even a few ‘now come on’ moments here and there. But it’ll probably never be enough to ruin this for you. I almost went down a star because there’s there a few things Tawny said about she and I’s race that is not always accurate of us, southern Black people in particular, but as they’ve both said many times, they’re not experts, I can’t expect perfection. Plus it’s more few and far between than it feels. Keep up the good work… because they kind of need you.

If you want discussion about race but really struggle with empathy-burnout, this is a good place to start. Sometimes comedy is a great way to cope, and these hosts are talented comedians.

I hate these people.

I tried listening to this pod for a while and wasn’t sure what to make of it. I find the voicemails received interesting, but the hosts provide little meaningful “analysis” of the voicemails. Sometimes Tawny provides counterpoints on why a situation might not be intentionally racist, but for Andrew, the answer is always that everything is racist & he usually ends up persuading Tawny away from any slightly different opinions she might have had. The rest of the pod is spent talking about boring Hollywood banter I don’t really care about usually. Tawny always says, “this isn’t a news show”, or “this isn’t a (fill in the blank) show”, and in a recent episode said something to the effect of “we aren’t experts in race issues”. So what is the point of the show then? From what I gather, it’s to have pointless Hollywood banter through the lens of extreme leftism. I am more liberal leaning myself, but these are the type of people who make normal liberals look bad. They are like the liberal equivalent of Marjorie Taylor Greene, and they surround themselves with only other extremists such that they think of themselves as the “normal” ones and everyone else is just asleep/ blind to their cause. To give them a small amount of credit, they do say reasonable & thoughtful things occasionally, but then they dilute that message with copy and pasted rhetoric from others with similar views. I can translate for myself through the rhetoric, but I’ve decided that it’s not really worth my time to do so anymore as there are better pods out there.
