Der weltweite Kampf für freie Meinungsäußerung ZKM_Medientheater Lesung 04.11.2015 Nachdem zum Auftakt der Veranstaltungsreihe »Writers for Freedom« der chinesische Schriftsteller und Musiker Liao Yiwu seine Stimme für seinen Freund und ehemaligen Mithäftling Li Bifeng erhob, ist am 04. November 2015 der kamerunische Dichter, Journalist und Menschenrechtler Enoh Meyomesse zu Gast, um aus seinen Texten zu lesen und über seine Zeit in Haft zu berichten. Im November 2011 im Nachgang zu seiner Kandidatur bei den Präsidentschaftswahlen in Kamerun inhaftiert und Ende 2012 zu sieben Jahren Haft verurteilt, kam Meyomesse Mitte April 2015 überraschend aus dem Kondengui Zentralgefängnis in Yaoundé frei und erhält über das Elsbeth-Wolffheim-Literaturstipendium der Stadt Darmstadt sowie das Writers-in-Exile-Programm des deutschen PEN nun die Möglichkeit, nach Deutschland zu kommen und in Freiheit seine schriftstellerische Tätigkeit fortzusetzen. Begleitet wird er von dem Lyriker, Übersetzer und Writers-for-Peace-Beauftragten des deutschen PEN, Hans Thill. Beide diskutieren mit Moderator Gerwig Epkes (SWR2 LiteraturEN) über diesen Fall sowie verschiedene Möglichkeiten, inhaftierte SchriftstellerInnen zu unterstützen. Meyomesse blickt auf die Veröffentlichung von mehr als fünfzehn Büchern sowie zahlreichen Gedichten, Essays und Texten zum politischen und kulturellen Zeitgeschehen zurück. Auf Deutsch erschienen sind seine Gedichtbände »Gedichte des Häftlings in Kondengui« (2013) und »Darmstadt. Eine afrikanische Liebeserklärung« (2015). /// The Global Fight for Freedom of Speech ZKM_Media Theater Reading 04.11.2015 After Chinese author and musician Liao Yiwu raised his voice for his friend and former fellow inmate Li Bifeng to start the series of »Writers for Freedom« events, Cameroonian poet, journalist and human rights activist Enoh Meyomesse will be our guest on 4th November 2015 to read out his texts and tell us about his time in prison. Imprisoned in November 2011 following his candidature for the presidential elections in Cameroon and sentenced to seven years imprisonment at the end of 2012, Meyomesse was unexpectedly freed from the Kondengui Central Prison in Yaoundé in April 2015 and has now received the opportunity to come to German and continue his literary activity in freedom through the Elsbeth-Wolffheim literature grant from the city of Darmstadt and the Writers-in-Exile programme by the German PEN branch. He is accompanied by poet, translator and Writers for Peace representative from the German PEN branch, Hans Thill. Both will discuss with presenter Gerwig Epkes (SWR2 LiteraturEN) about this case and about the various opportunities to support imprisoned writers. Meyomesse looks back on the publication of more than fifteen books and countless poems, essays and texts about political and cultural events of the day. His poetry volumes »Gedichte des Häftlings in Kondengui« [Poems of the Prisoner in Kondengui] (2013) and »Darmstadt. Eine afrikanische Liebeserklärung« [Darmstadt. An African Declaration of Love] (2015) are published in German.

“A poem is a maximum of freedom in the smallest space.” (Jan Wagner) On January 27, 2016, Jan Wagner, whose volume of poetry »Regentonnenvariationen« was awarded the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2015, will raise his voice for Qatari poet Mohammed al-Ajami, who is currently serving a fifteen-year sentence due to the publication of his critical poem »Tunisian Jasmine«, among other things. /// „Ein Gedicht ist die größtmögliche Freiheit auf engstem Raum.“ (Jan Wagner) Am 27. Januar 2016 erhebt Jan Wagner, dessen Gedichtband »Regentonnenvariationen« 2015 mit dem Preis der Leipziger Buchmesse ausgezeichnet wurde, seine Stimme für den katarischen Dichter Mohammed al-Ajami, der unter anderem wegen der Veröffentlichung seines kritischen Gedichtes »Tunesischer Jasmin« derzeit eine fünfzehnjährige Haftstrafe verbüßt.

“As long as there are still political prisoners in the world, our hearts will also remain imprisoned.” (Liao Yiwu) To kick off the series on August 12, 2015, Chinese author and musician Liao Yiwu will be a guest at the ZKM. Due to the publication of a critical poem, he was imprisoned for four years in China, but managed to flee to Germany in 2011 and has lived in Berlin ever since. As a reading partner, he will raise his voice for his friend and colleague, Li Bifeng, who was sentenced to twelve years’ imprisonment in 2012, and discuss the situation of writers in China with SWR2 literature presenter Gerwig Epkes. The actor Frank Stöckle will read out German translations of selected texts by both authors. /// „Solange es in der Welt politische Gefangene gibt, bleiben auch unsere Herzen im Gefängnis.“ (Liao Yiwu) Zum Auftakt der Reihe am 12. August 2015 wird der chinesische Schriftsteller und Musiker Liao Yiwu zu Gast im ZKM sein, der selbst aufgrund der Veröffentlichung eines kritischen Gedichtes vier Jahre in China in Haft war, dem aber 2011 die Flucht nach Deutschland gelang und der seitdem in Berlin lebt. Er wird als Lesepate seine Stimme für seinen 2012 zu zwölf Jahren Haft verurteilten Freund und Kollegen Li Bifeng erheben und mit SWR2-Literatur-Moderator Gerwig Epkes über die Situation von Schriftstellern in China diskutieren. Der Schauspieler Frank Stöckle trägt ausgewählte Texte der beiden Autoren in einer deutschen Übersetzung vor.

„Die Stille im Augenweiß ist free.” (Herta Müller) For the finale of the series on March 8, we look forward to welcome Nobel Prize winner for literature, Herta Müller as the reading mentor of Chinese poet and artist Liu Xia. Together with moderator Gerwig Epkes, Herta Müller will speak about the powerful poetry of Liu Xia and about her own work, in which she eloquently highlights the horror of totalitarianism. /// „Die Stille im Augenweiß ist frei“ (Herta Müller) Zum Abschluss der Veranstaltungsreihe dürfen wir am 8. März 2016 Literaturnobelpreisträgerin Herta Müller begrüßen. Als Lesepatin ergreift sie das Wort für die in China seit Jahren unter strengem Hausarrest stehende Dichterin und Künstlerin Liu Xia und spricht mit Moderator Gerwig Epkes über ihre eigenen Werke, in denen Verfolgung, Bedrohung und Isolation ebenfalls eine zentrale Rolle spielen.
