Hey there, fellow wordsmiths and aspiring authors!

It's your Write On Purpose Coach, Brad Swift, and today I want to dive into a topic that's not only fascinating but also incredibly valuable for anyone looking to level up their writing game and create a lasting impact with their words. I'm talking about the power of coaching distinctions.

Now, you might be wondering, "Brad, what exactly is a coaching distinction?" Well, my friend, a distinction is like a pair of magical glasses that allows you to see the world in a whole new light. It's a unique perspective or concept that, when applied to your life or writing, can reveal hidden opportunities, challenges, and paths forward that were previously invisible or unclear.

In my soon-to-be-published book, Write On Purpose: Authoring Your Legacy in the Second Half of Life, I explore several powerful distinctions that can be true game-changers for aspiring and new authors. Let me share a couple of them with you.

First up, we have the distinction of "Creating a Gap." This is all about recognizing the space between where you are now as a writer (including those who are still thinking about becoming an author) and where you want to be. By acknowledging and embracing this gap, you create a sense of creative tension that can propel you forward, inspiring you to take action and bridge the divide between your current reality and your authorial dreams. Robert Fritz, in The Path of Least Resistance, speaks to the power of this tension, noting,

"When you create this tension... you are setting up a force field that by its very nature will seek resolution." This Gap, therefore, is fertile ground for growth, a compelling force urging you toward the realization of your vision.

Another distinction I've recently created and shared in the book are the concepts of "Legacy-worthy books" and "Authors of legacy-worthy books." This goes beyond the typical "bestseller" status that many authors strive for. When you shift your perspective to creating a legacy-worthy book, you're no longer just focusing on sales numbers or rankings. Instead, you're creating something that has the power to impact lives, inspire generations, and leave a lasting mark on the world.

As I say in Write On Purpose: Authoring Your Legacy in the Second Half of Life:

“…What makes a book legacy-worthy? At its core, a legacy-worthy book possesses a set of distinct qualities and attributes. It is written with an authentic voice, one that reflects the author's unique perspective and life experiences. It carries a timeless message or theme that resonates deeply with readers, tapping into the universal human experience. A legacy-worthy book is marked by exceptional craftsmanship in writing, editing, and production, reflecting the author's commitment to creating an enduring work of art.”

So, why are coaching distinctions so valuable for authors? Well, for starters, they can help you reframe challenges and obstacles as opportunities for growth and transformation. When you look at your writing journey through the lens of a powerful distinction, suddenly, those roadblocks become stepping stones on the path to success.

The magic and power escalates when you start creating your own distinctions, just like I did with "legacy-worthy books." By crafting a unique perspective that resonates with your values and vision, you not only set yourself apart from the crowd but also create a north star that guides your writing journey and keeps you focused on what truly matters.

So, my fellow authors-in-the-making and creatives, here's my challenge to you: start playing with distinctions in your own life and writing. Take a concept or idea that's been rattling around in your head and explore how it can shed new light on your authorial journey. Ask yourself, "How can this distinction help me create more meaningful, impactful work? How can it guide me towards my ultimate writing goals?"

And remember, just like any new skill or perspective, creating and applying distinctions takes practice. But trust me, my friend, the payoff is so worth it. When you unlock the power of coaching distinctions, you'll find yourself navigating the ups and downs of the writing life with greater clarity, resilience, and purpose.

Now, I don't want to leave you empty-handed, so here's a little something special. My book, Write On Purpose: Authoring Your Legacy in the Second Half of Life, is currently available for preorder on Amazon and my Porpoise Publishing bookstore. And when you preorder, you'll not only be among the first to dive into this transformative read, but you'll also unlock exclusive bonuses, including the chance to snag a 1-on-1 coaching session with yours truly. Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this opportunity to take your writing to the next level and create a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

So, what do you say? Are you ready to unlock the power of coaching distinctions and transform your writing journey? Let's do this together!

Happy writing, my friends, and remember—your words have the power to change the world. Keep shining that light!

With love and purposeful prose,

Brad (Your Write On Purpose Coach)
