John could have ended the gospel at chapter 20 but he didn't. In part 2 of Jesus' trial, we see Pilate conflicted and indecisive until the Jews' cries touch his political nerve. Pilate gives in to save his own skin. At the cross, we see Jesus suffering excruciating agony but not giving in to save Himself. Instead, He endures to fulfill Scripture.
